Maybe they have to use the term alleged because the two guys have not yet confirmed (or confessed) that they are the guys on camera - even though the police are certain that it's them.

These records would let them know who was in the area at the time and who was calling who in the area at the time.

They would not need Smollett's permission for these records, as they are investigating a crime report.

If people got rides to and from, and were coordinating via cell phone, then the police will find out. It's just a matter of looking through the records.

Lyft means a car would be pulling up and picking up in the 60 second zone, at 2AM, and cameras evidently not seeing the car slowing down. The Lyft driver would also remember such a fare, I would think.

Also, if a real attack, the attackers wod have to be certain Smollett would walk away, and unless the attackers ran away but stayed in the 60 second zone, their whereabouts are still in ninjaland

Well, you could get dropped off near the area, I suppose?

If they intended to attack Smollett with bleach and a noose, then they obviously needed info on Smollett's location and they needed to plan the attack. There isn't much time or distance to use after he leaves the Subway.

Planning could possibly involve knowing where cameras are, I suppose.
Sounds sketchy, though.

They are also taking the chance that Smollett doesn't carry a gun or a knife.

It seems more likely that they knew everything they needed to know, due to some sort of coordination.

Hopefully the case will break open soon.

.@fox32news has learned from @Chicago_Police that the 2 persons of interests they are talking to were an extra on #Empire and his close friend. They were picked up at the airport and are the ones in surveillance video.

Every lyft/uber trip has a GPS track of the entire trip.

A driver or lyft could pull up the exact route, and time that a driver took that night.

We now have to look at two possibilities.

1. It is a conspiracy to do a hoax.
2. The Extra met Smollet on set, got his number, mailed him a letter, and set this up to ambush him.

Well, Empire is carried by Fox Broadcasting. Maybe that's what Smollett's colleagues meant when they shouted, "this is MAGA country!" Just three dudes from a Fox TV show walking around downtown together.












I'm still partial to the idea of a couple of hoteps talking about "make Egypt great again!" though.

I realize you're being facetious but this would explain how they knew where to find him. This explains things. And it explains thing in either the hoax or real scenarios.

Extras are pretty low on the totem pole. I doubt they are kept informed of what the stars are doing.

I doubt an extra would be privy to much.

I can't see how an extra would know where Jussie was at any given time, unless specifically told, or some other unusual circumstance.
 
Theory being floated by CWBChicago is that CPD had Smollett's phone records all along and when Smollett provided his redacted records, they just investigated what Smollett redacted. IOW, Smollett pointed out where they needed to look by redacting calls.

Sounds too good to be true, though.

It's not unusual to get buddy-buddy with some guy from work. Especially if they are both gay. Gee, two gay black guys on a set? Strange for them NOT to hook up a bit.

Going to Subway at 2am sounds like a spur of the moment decision, though.

Even if you are his good friend, would you know he was going to Subway?

Who would know in time to set up this attack before he makes it home?

If he was on the phone with his manager, then his manager might know exactly where he was going and when.
