Homoeopathic contraception?

Rolfe,

I am quite happy to try to undertake experiments either on myself or with friends.

Great, Sarah! The easiest experiment, particularly with such a small group, would be Randi's "distinguish pure water from a homeopathic nostrum" test. How about that one? There's a million bucks for you right there. Shall we contact Kramer?

Wait for it, Bill

Any guesses as to which one she'll choose?

About a week ago, another member asked me by PM if homoeopathy claimed to be able to influence the probability of conception - specifically, to be able to provide effective contraception.

I had a few thoughts about this, which I might favour you with later on, but basically I think it's a question for the homoeopaths. So, I advised waiting until Barb and Sarah or other trained homoeopaths were around before posting the question.

They're about at the moment. So, apologies to the person who thought of this first (I've cleared out my PM box), but, can homoeopathy prevent conception?

Rolfe.
I believe that was me. Thanks for starting this thread. It is pretty much the discussion I was looking for.

So, would shortening of the... er ... delivery mechanism to 1:1,000,000 of its size potentiate the sperm so that they now act as a contraceptive? Any brave boys here game for the experiment? Remember, it involves lots of succussing.

You'll be happy to hear that I just found out today that my CEC's for this year include a research seminar and I may be conductign a proving or a DBPC study. ANy volunteers?

Well now, two contenders. I wonder who'll get the million?

I don't have much hope for Barb's study, because there's absolutely nothing in the design of proving studies by which you could possibly tell if the remedy was having any effect.

Maybe Sarah has a better idea for a protocol. As Bill said, all you have to do is to be able to tell whether you were given a potentised remedy or a chemically identical sham. Any way you like. Though if proving effects are so striking, that's certainly the way I'd choose to do the test. Do it reliably enough, and you could be a million bucks richer.

This was Bill's reply to Sarah's announcement that she was quite willing to undertake experiments with either herself or her friends.

You seem to have overlooked this recently.

Sarah dear, you said you'd answered all the questions in the other threads. You seem to have overlooked this one though.
