Homeopathic migraine relief

I saw an ad for this headache remedy on TV today. According to drugstore.com it has--

Active Ingredients: Blue Flag 12X H.P.U.S. 0.1% (Iris Versicolor - Pain Reliever**), Potassium Dichromate (6X H.P.U.S. 0.03% - Pain Reliever**), White Bryony (12X H.P.U.S. 0.04% - Pain Reliever**)

--and the directions say to apply it generously to the forehead. But why? I assume it is meant to be absorbed through the skin, but then why should it have to be on the forehead and not the sole of the foot, or behind the knee, or on the bum?

from a homeopathic point of view it could just as easily (well maybe not as easily...) be applied to the bum, or any other area of the body. However, alcohol and menthol are listed as inactive ingredients which would give immediate physical sensations on the area applied to so that would be preferable to have on the area that is painful. Interestingly, many homeopaths feel that menthol is an antidote to remedies.Of course, most migraines are not in the forehead area but rather on either side of the head, typically one sided. In other words - I gather it is simply cause it sounds good to put it on the forehead.

You should've just said:

"In other words, it's complete bullocks."

And saved yourself about 105 words.

Some tension headaches can be relieved with a nice hot bath. A WHOLE tubful of water. Not just wimpy dabs of a wee bit of water. I recommend your homegrown tap water for that though, it's way cheaper and already heated by the water tank.

I second Eos'solution. I would add a small glass of your favourite mildly alcoholic tipple and a large glass of water to correct for fluid loss.

A good (preferably old and tattered) paperback novel adds to the experience.

And if you can get someone to give you a back rub in bed afterwards....Its worth having the headache in the first place.

And who knows what might happen if these nostrums do, in fact, relieve the headache. Ooo, oo, my head hurts. :)

There is just one problem. Why can't anyone explain why ghost histamine solutions keep giving p < .0001 significance.

they don't keep giving. they only give those results when ennis is involved.

Why don't you explain how the ghost histamine solutions have anything to do with a homeopathic migraine relief that is slathered on the forehead rather than ingested. In fact, why don't you explain how the above ingredients "cure" a migraine.

I don't think it would work.

Absurd accusation. So beyond absurd that I want you to keep repeating. Let some of the others see the way your mind works.

1999 paper

P. Belon, J. Cumps, M. Ennis, P. F. Mannaioni, J. Sainte-Laudy, M. Roberfroid, F. A. C. Wiegant. “Inhibition of Human Basophil Degranulation by Successive Histamine Dilutions: Results of a European Multi-Centre Trial,” Inflammation Research 48 Supplement 13 1999:17-18.

Study protocol
The study was co-ordinated in Brussels and all histamine dilutions were coded randomly by the coordinator, who did not perform any of the tests. The dilutions were prepared in 3 separate laboratories, which did not participate in the trial. The samples were then posted to the trial laboratories. All reagents, including antibodies, histamine, staining solutions, microtitre plates etc., were from the same source. Data were returned to the co-ordinator and analysed independently by a biostatistician,
who was not involved in any other part of the trial.

The ghost histamine water obviously works. The evidence is in. It is conclusive. The only people who do not believe it are those who are extremely biased or have not studied it. Instead they attack it without really investigating it.

There is something going on with respect to serially diluted solutions. Dozens and dozens of DBPC studies support this. They are all denied by the pseudo-skeptics.

The reason they are "denied" is that they don't exist. At the risk of inciting spam, just post the "dozens and dozens" of references. To actual, genuine, properly designed DBPC studies.

We're waiting.....

Maybe tomorrow. Now grab your cat and go to bed.

Based just on this statement, you obviously don't even know what that means.

a.k.a "AWC" (adequate and well-controlled)

But, I agree. If you repeatedly bang yourself in the head with a hammer, and you tell people that you can reliably do this over and over again, you're still only proving that you know how to bang yourself in the head with a hammer. It doesn't elucidate the reason as to why you are banging yourself in the head with a hammer.
