Holocaust Links question

Then let me just take this moment to say kudos to you and Mathis (and I guess Sergej Romanov as well) for doing what you do. I've read your blog from the start and its great to see someone countering those deniers still active. Especially the more volatile - like Hannover and his posse.

Btw, was there ever any closure in the "Auschwitz debate" on Rodoh?

Cheers,
SLOB

Thanks! Sergey and Roberto are the powerhouses of the group, really. They're the nearest equivalents to Gravy on here - expert amateurs, and I mean that as a compliment.

Andrew is mostly interested in the antisemitism dimension. He's great at getting in the face of the wibble brigade (Hufschmid, Collins Piper, Grubach, McNally, Weber - all North Americans and all completely hopeless).

I'm too academic in some respects, being the professional historian, so my work has transformed itself into a fully-fledged academic project on the history of Holocaust denial, especially on the European side, which Lipstadt didn't cover so very well IMO.

The RODOH debate fizzled because Scott Smith had a car crash, and the deniers were down to just him doign any work. The one 'name' denier they roped in, Robert Countess, died of a brain tumour. It sort of seems horribly appropriate that someone who spent the greater part of his life in an antisemitic rage would go that way.

Hannover and his circle-jerk at CODOH are an excellent counterpoint to the Loosers at LCF. They should have it pointed out to them that they ban interlopers as readily as the Holocaust deniers do. That'll wind them up, heh heh.

Have you ever posted a comment at the blog, or come over to RODOH at all?

Never posted at the blog, but I have made a few posts, under a different nym, over at Rodoh.

I think I might be hijacking this thread now, but has anything come out of the opening of the Arolsen archives, denier-wise? As I remember it they were about as eager to have that opened as the truthers are having a "new independent inquiry" going.

Cheers,

PM me, it's always nice to know who's floating around where. Kiwiwriter here posts comments at the blog a lot.

The opening of Arolsen has been slowed simply because they have to organise the vast quantities of material in such a fashion that it can be used. Needless to say deniers are very suspicious of this, but they were already paranoiacally claiming that because USHMM et al will get first crack, then things will be planted/removed/faked.

My point about Arolsen has been that it was used by Polish historians in the 1970s to flesh out an encyclopedia of camps and ghettos they published in 1979, detailing about 5,000 places of confinement located on postwar Polish soil. Almost all of the ghetto entries have Arolsen source references. I've also seen the sources cited in East German dissertations on Flossenbuerg KZ.

Arolsen was closed in the early 1980s because the ITS grew paranoid about compensation, under pressure from the then West German government. The director was a particularly odd bird and has only now just been retired after about 25 years in the job. That's what 'opened up' the archives.

Fred Leuchter

Actually they are not that well organised. At least not anymore. Leuchter is gone...

I'm not too up to date on this stuff, but when did Fred Leuchter leave the scene? Did he recant his gas chamber claims (The Leuchter Report)?

Just out of curiosity, has any Denier ever answered the question as to why not one single Nazi charged over the deaths has ever used the defense that it didn't happen?

I think a lot of them went with the Denier-equivalence of "planted", eg "the trial was a sham", "they were forced to confess" or "they were tortured".

I dont think he ever recant his claims, at least not officially, but he had to withdraw his claims of being an engineer and the revisionist-movement has put him at arms-length, so nowadays only revisionist script-kiddies ever use the Leuchter report in arguing about Auschwitz. Germar Rudolf however wrote a report to replace Leuchters (He on the other hand was caught using a whole bunch of pseudonyms (most notably "Ernst Gauss") to boost the apparent support of his different papers.).

And some non-occupied countries as well. In Eichmann in Jerusalem, IIRC, Hannah Arendt gave an account of NAZI attempts to deport Jews from allied (but not occupied) countries. Some complied, but many just ignored the requests entirely. In southern Italy and Greece, officials would receive these letters demanding the deportation of Jews. They would hastily reply that efforts were well underway and then just as hastily forget the whole thing.

In northern countries, defiance of Nazi edicts was much more difficult but it was done. Obviously, the courage of the King of Denmark and others should never be forgotten.

Also the Finns, who in spite of being allied to Germany to secure their own survival, kept their honour.
