As it turned out, this church more or less died when it was discovered that the pastor was diddling the kids of the flock. Worse yet (for me) was the news that my former sister-in-law's new husband had been charged with the same offense: he'd been diddling my nieces.
Oh Moochie, that's horrible! I hope your nieces are recovering from that experience. I think the the biggest trouble with religion and other things of that ilk, is that it's so much about control. Control of thoughts, control of actions, etc, and the emphasis on accepting without questioning. These sort of institutions discourage free thought and discourage people from saying "that just isn't right!" They're not empowering, they disposse people from speaking out.
