As it turned out, this church more or less died when it was discovered that the pastor was diddling the kids of the flock. Worse yet (for me) was the news that my former sister-in-law's new husband had been charged with the same offense: he'd been diddling my nieces.

Oh Moochie, that's horrible! I hope your nieces are recovering from that experience. I think the the biggest trouble with religion and other things of that ilk, is that it's so much about control. Control of thoughts, control of actions, etc, and the emphasis on accepting without questioning. These sort of institutions discourage free thought and discourage people from saying "that just isn't right!" They're not empowering, they disposse people from speaking out.

The most horrible thing of all is that KK would say that your nieces deserved it because they were born sinful. Her favorite game is to blame the victim. God let it happen on purpose to get our attention.

Why doesn't she get that this kind of attention isn't earning her god any converts? It's only driving more people away from him. Who would want to be anywhere near that kind of cruelty? Who in their right minds would want to spend eternity with such a sick bastard?

Yeah, I know about KK not being in her right mind. Oh, wait, never mind; mental illness isn't real.

Unfortunately, the girls didn't fare as well as their mother. One sunk into drugs and prostitution--we have unconfirmed reports that she may have died. No one, including the mother, knows for certain. She disappeared from our lives a long time ago.

The other girl is a mother herself, but the last time we saw her she was single and as it turned out, only looked us up for financial assistance. We hadn't seen her in years and hadn't known of her circumstances, or the fact she had had children. We did what we could for her but after a few months she became "bored," packed up her belongings and vanished. She sent us one Christmas card from a place on the other side of the country.

As far as we know, neither they nor their mother ever set foot in a church again.
