HMB Endeavour

Well the Endeavour that sails now isn't the original, it's a replica. The original was scuppered back in 1778.

I know, but the Constellation only has about half her rigging, and she was lacking a lot of furnishings that a real 19th-Century sailing ship would have had, IIRC. And some of her guns are plastic replicas. :(

To be fair, there's a bit of the Ship of Theseus about every preserved ship of any real age. The Victory is still technically in commission, but I suspect an awful lot of it is not original.

The Constellation still has a lot of her original wood, but it's been supplemented with modern building materials. See here.

We have a Nice restored Frigate just up the road from us in Hartlepool.

Built in 1817 and restored in the 90s by the same team in Hartlepool that restored HMS Warrior.

Well worth a visit, some of the guns on the Trinc are fibreglass, partly due to sourcing enough real guns and partly to reduce the weight on the timbers.

Yes, but this one was actually built from the ground up in the 1990s.
Oh, quite. I did only say "a bit of" the Ship of Theseus. The point is that it doesn't necessarily make it any less impressive. I'm fairly sure that no one who played in the 1889 First Division match is still a member of Preston North End, but they're still called that, and they still are that. The same goes for The Temptations, and very nearly Iron Maiden.

Thanks for the links, Spitfire and Captain Swoop!

Here's an article with a picture of the HMB Endeavour being dwarfed by the Queen Mary 2 when they crossed paths near Portland a week ago.

(The caption says The Young Endeavour, but according to all 3 ships' logs, it couldn't have been.)
Caption is wrong. Young Endeavour is a sail training Brig gifted to us by Britain.

Any clearer now?

Not in the least.

This is really all a bit beside the point though, isn't it? Orphia posted her pics on JREF, not Facebook didn't she? The pictures were not posted for a commercial purpose and she doesn't have to worry about any legal complications. Nor does anyone else posting pics in this thread as far as I can tell.

You're quite right, it is beside the point.
