Hillary Clinton is Done

What could possibly "come out" that hasn't been thrown at her already? She was pilloried in 1992 for not baking cookies. She ran for senate twice against Republicans who really did not want her to win. Her character caused Kathy Bates to kill herself in Primary Colors. What other charges could be leveled against her that haven't already been thrown at her dozens of times?

This is the Clinton's!!

This Fall would be the time to release the crap.

Totally agreed, a real crap-storm is waiting if that happens.

And some of it will come from the Left, too.

Ben, you're agreeing with nonsense? I know you've got a horse in the race but you could rein it in and get back on the path to sanity. logger's post made no sense, grammatically or logically. You "totally agree" with it?

He's saying that hatred for Hillary is "baked in" by years and years of conditioning. And he is correct. Even if I loved Hillary, I would agree with that. She has a massive Albatross around her neck and nothing is going to make that go away. And it does not even matter that most of that is untrue - it is believed implicitly by far too many.

When 60% of the electorate think that you are a habitual liar and don't trust you, it isn't something they can run a few commercials about and correct, no matter how badly they paint the opposition. This isn't about a few supporters of another candidate sucking lemons because their preference was for a different candidate, this is about nominating a candidate that 60% of the general election voters (rightly or wrongly) think is liar. Above and beyond all the other assorted demons tethered to HRC, being untrustworthy is a dark crown that overshadows every aspect of her run for president, muting enthusiasm and depressing turn-out among supporters while rallying and giving hope to opponents.

One of the things I see people say most often is that they like Bernie, or even prefer Bernie, but feel he can't win the general election. Hillary woulds win the general election but Bernie would lose it.

My question for those who believe this...

Where are these votes coming from that would win the election for Hillary but wouldn't also vote for Bernie? Is it the base? Because from what I can see most of the base will vote for whoever the dem nominee is regardless of whether it is Bernie or Hillary and if anything a portion of the base (such as those I mention in post #1969 above) seems like it would vote for Bernie but might stay home or vote 3rd party rather than Hillary. Is it the independents then? Well currently independents highly favor Bernie over Hillary. Is it conservatives? From what I've seen conservatives have full on Hillary Derangement Syndrome and would never vote for her but there are conservatives who seem to like and will vote for Bernie. So where exactly are these magical votes coming from that would see Hillary win but Bernie lose?

I'm still waiting for someone to address this. The only response was that even if Bernie won he wouldn't be able to get much done. Given the rampant HDS, I don't see how the same wouldn't be true of Hillary.

I can't believe there are many conservatives who would vote for Bernie? At least not using the definition used by all the Republican presidential candidates.

Independents are not a voting block but are made up of a spectrum of political beliefs so I'm skeptical of Independents helping Bernie because the right side of that spectrum will surely not vote for him. For Independents it becomes which candidate is able to either invigorate them in favor of themselves or make them fearful of the opponent. Fear is a very strong motivator and no party does fear mongering better then Republicans.

Ultimately, I think HRC has a better shot then Sanders not because she will get more votes then Bernie would, but because the Republican fear and attack machine is fully deployed against HRC while Bernie is not even on their radar. Socialism isn't the bogey man among the left, but to the center and right it's kryptonite. Motivating the Republican base will be easier with Bernie.

With the Republicans in control of Congress, neither candidate would be "successful", but HRC would be likely to compromise with the right and get some things done. To the Bernie crowd, that's a problem. They don't want to compromise with the right. While I understand, it's a foolish, short sighted and throwing the baby out with the bath water attitude which will only lead to a Republican president. Bernie boys will smugly sleep well knowing they didn't vote for someone who would compromise to the right, but will take no responsibility for allowing the country to lurch even more to the right.

All of this has been addressed. That you claim it hasn't is evidence you are frustrated so many people in this thread don't agree with your opinion.

Socialism=Communism=effective fear-mongering > The voting public is more afraid of the socialism label that the Hillary isn't trustworthy label.

Sanders himself has said his plan for accomplishing his campaign goals will require a broad-based public movement. If all he has is 30% of 50% of the voters, that's not exactly the ground swell he needs.

Barring some unforeseen catastrophe, it looks like Hillary will be the Democratic nominee. Who would be her strongest VP pick? I'm assuming a younger man with a well-established political record from a non-Eastern state. I'm thinking sens. Ron Wyden, Mark Warner and Al Franken (both a serious legislator and a media-savvy entertainer), and Colorado governor John Hickenlooper.

Doesn't picking an old, white guy make her look like she thinks her gender is a weakness?

She could go with Kathleen Sebelius, who was a popular governor in Kansas and Sec. of HHS. Ken Salazar is Hispanic and from Colorado.

Whomever it is, I have the feeling it will be someone she knows well and respects. She's not going to let her team pick someone for her like McCain did.

You may have a short memory, but Republicans and voters in general won't forget that Sebelius was ultimately responsible for the catastrophic rollout of the ACA website. I would also suspect that some men who would be willing to vote for the Democratic ticket despite reservations about Hillary would be leery of electing an all-girl team. If Hillary wanted to pick a woman she'd be better off with Barbara Boxer. But the point of the VP selection is to balance the ticket with someone who is different from the Presidential candidate. The inexperienced Obama picked a legislator with 40 years of experience; the aging McCain (to his eternal regret) picked a young woman. Salazar has a lot of baggage from his Interior Department decisions and his Senate votes that environmentalists could throw at him. He has also been close to Joe Lieberman, who many Democrats consider a turncoat. He also once threatened to punch out a reporter who pissed him off; you can imagine the tape running as part of every Republican commercial.

All I have regarding this is anecdotal from various forums and such but I've seen numerous people saying they are conservative, voted republican, but are voting Bernie this election. There may be polling evidence but I haven't looked.

Maybe so but the current evidence shows that Bernie is doing much better with independents than Clinton. http://www.quinnipiac.edu/news-and-...y-poll/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=2307

The poll shows only 36% of independents have a favorable view of Clinton vs 56% unfavorable and 5% don't know yet. Bernie gets 47% favorable, 29% unfavorable, 24% don't know yet.

Unfounded assertions. As a side note, not just you, but others as well need to stop constantly harping on about how much you dislike the idea of 'foolish, short sighted' people exercising their vote for anyone else should Hillary win the nomination. It's not doing you or that position any favors.

Socialism=Communism=effective fear-mongering > The voting public is more afraid of the socialism label that the Hillary isn't trustworthy label.

Unfounded assertions. Which groups/voting demographics are going to vote for Hillary but not for Bernie and where is the evidence of this other than your say so?

Even more ironic,
... wouldn't be able to get much done. Given the rampant HDS, I don't see how the same wouldn't be true of Hillary.
So a skilled politician that you claim is not that different from the GOP won't get anything done because there are Hillary haters?
