Hillary Clinton is Done

It's defining a woman in relation to her family, rather than her personal accomplishments. A lot of people get twitchy about that. It can be tough to see because it is so common that people have gotten used to it. The best example in recent years would be the New York times obituary of noted rocket scientist Yvonne Brill, which opened by complimenting her cooking skills.

The "sexism" was in referring to Bill Clinton as "her husband" ? I don't get it...

Not surprised you missed it, it is so ubiquitous that people hardly ever think about it.

"...Hillary is a congenital liar, so was her husband...".

That is spectacularly absurd.

The claim was that Slick Hilly is being targeted because she is a "woman," and a man would not be attacked the same way, which is ludicrous because you don't even have to go outside her damn family to find another example of a "man' criticized for his own failings: Slick Willy.

I think the point being made is that one doesn't say: Scott Walker is a raving lunatic and so is his wife. Or Ted Cruz is smart man pretending to be a moron, just as his wife is a smart woman pretending to be a bimbo. Or Donald Trump is a ditzy blonde, just like his last four wives.

It is rare to bring up a male candidate's spouse in the political arena when attempting to make a point about the candidate. To some, this is a sexist double standard.

(Did I really just have to explain this glaringly obvious point? Yes, apparently I did. Sigh)

Sigh, her husband is not merely her spouse. He is William Jefferson Clinton, he was the 42nd president of the United States. He is perhaps the standard bearer for a male politician being attacked for his character flaws (and justifiably so).

I hate to agree with 16.5, but I think any politician whose spouse was a former leader of the free world is going to be compared and defined in terms of their spouse from time to time.

Jeb Bush is compared to his brother as often, and it's in fact been one of the major challenges of his candidacy to distinguish himself from his brother.

Exactly. Scott walkers wife is not a "person of interest". The same is not true of bush and Clinton close family members.

Eh, I thought it was a minor point myself. Probably not worth the electrons already used on it.

I will say that I have never really compared the various members of the Bush family in relation to each other. There are more than enough reasons to dislike them on an individual basis.

That's the thing about subtle racism and subtle sexism, people are unaware it is affecting them.

In our minds, of course we aren't sexist or racist, and overtly we aren't. But the disrespect afforded Obama, compared to Presidents like Clinton who were subject to the same GOP hate machine, is blatantly obvious. Was governor Brewer a racist when she poked a finger at Obama? Was the "You lie" or Alito shaking his head when Obama was addressing the Congress evidence of racism?

Those acts of disrespect come, not from overt racism, but from unconscious perceptions that racism has left ingrained in our culture.

The effect of subtle sexism comes out the same way. It's especially prevalent in all this bashing of Hillary's personality. The perception is being exploited by the GOP, but there is a clear undercurrent of sexism in it.

Bill Clinton got impeached... just baffled regarding the lack of any historical basis for your absurd comments.

People call Hillary a liar because she is a liar, just like they called Bill Clinton a liar.

In any event, the true "clear undercurrent" is a baseless ad hominem fallacy. So much for critical thinking.

I didn't get that at all. It's still Hillary in the lead with Sanders closing fast. And that isn't going to change soon.

Sanders raised 1.2 Million during the debate itself, which itself has to set Hillary's teeth on edge.
Sanders is only ahead in one state. I think "closing fast" remains to be seen.

...snip...

Hillary Clinton ≠ Bill Clinton.

It's quite easy to keep the two separate - Hillary Clinton is the one running for the presidency of the USA, Bill Clinton is the one that isn't.

But it APPEARS Darat that you are having an extraordinarily difficult time of following the conversation, so you are launching improper and unjustified comments about "sexism." I'll walk you through it:

SG's claim: "And on that note, as a female I can't help but notice, women are still judged on their clothes personality, while men are not."
My response: False, people attacked Bill Clinton all the time because of his gross personality flaws. In other words, you don't even have to go outside her family to find an example that destroys the claim
Your response: That is sexist.
Me: face palm.

eta: Hillary Clinton is the one running for the presidency of the USA and is criticized for her personality flaws, Bill Clinton is the one that isn't and was and is criticized for his personality flaws.

Hope that helps!

All very nice still doesn't make your continued sexism right.

This is BS! He's done nothing sexist! Playing that card is an affront to women everywhere! Pathetic. *Y'all sound like a female *Al Sharpton!
And that ain't good!

* A person who plays the race card often, when not reasonable!
*No idea the sex of Darat.

Same. I pretty much never agree with 16.5 but this trend of labeling absolutely everything as racist or sexist has to stop. Not only is it embarrassing for liberals but it detracts from real sexism and racism.

Please reread my post.

It is not my argument, but it was glaringly obvious what the argument was. I am not calling you sexist, I am just questioning whether you honestly needed that spelled out for you. Obviously, Darat thought more highly of you.

Ah, I see. You don't care to address my argument at all, just gonna lob grossly unfounded personal attacks against me.

Criticizing Hillary in the exact same way as Bill Clinton is sexist.

Check!

"...Hillary is a congenital liar, so was her husband...".

So if he had said, Bill is a congenital liar, and so is his wife, would that be sexist?
