Hillary Clinton is Done: part 2

Yeah, no reason other than to promote Sanders over Clinton, as I said. When a candidate is actively promoting someone in the other party, it's pretty basic that that candidate would prefer to run against the person they are promoting.

You're multiple layers away from the game Teh Donald is playing.

No reason? Didn't you read what he said?

That, and as 16.5 mentioned already, such a debate would be the ultimate slap in the face of Her Entitledness, and that's a fun reason in of itself Teh Donald surely sees. We'll see if it happens, but anyway your idea that Trump would prefer to run against Sanders is utter laughable hogwash.

And now the debate is off:

Trump was just kidding
, even though "Trump initially seemed keen on the idea because "it would have such high ratings," and "he figured Sanders "would be easier to beat" than Hillary Clinton. "

That's not a proper source, it's some online rag quoting a stand-up comic's tweet. Bit more patience might be appropriate.

It's also pointing out that on the show where he apparently agreed to debate Sanders, Trump stated that Sanders would be easier to beat. Hmm, promoting an opponent that is easier to beat, what a deep, deep strategy Trump has.

Not going to happen.

Care to bet on it?

I wouldn't take that bet if I were you. Trump sees it as pure publicity. I can't see him being afraid of debating Sanders, my guess is Trump will do nothing but attack Clinton, ignoring Sanders with the exception of trying to get him to agree with Trump on Trump's Clinton attacks.

And no telling how Sanders might view the publicity.

Edited to add, I see the "just kidding" link. But that makes me wonder if Sanders nixed the idea and Trump wants to make it look like he nixed it first. Who knows with Trump who sees everything as a publicity stunt.

Have fun with the monologue:

Ah, so you haven't been paying attention. Trump saying something doesn't make it true, or even what he believes.

I don't think so. At this point, Sanders is desperate to be seen as a viable candidate, so why would he nix the idea?

I notice the news is being careful to frame the Clinton email report as 'rule breaking' instead of 'law breaking'.

They of course are also trying to make it into a big scandal because that sells the news. Normally that kind of report would be about the department and they would make that the scandal.

They keep egging Sanders on to attack Clinton's email.

I was going to move this to the Sanders thread but then I realized this really is about Trump trying to diss Clinton and Sanders believing he can make the debate about Trump's shortcomings. I have my doubts that Sanders will dominate such a debate. It's like playing with fire and Sanders is certain he can control the flames.

Multiple sources tell @Cbsnews that Trump was kidding about debating Sanders & it will never happen. (H/t @stevechaggaris and @MajorCBS)

Sanders' campaign guy Jeff Weaver is on MSNBC now saying it would be good for Sanders. That answers that side of the question.

Probably because that's what the IG report actually says.

It's been a shadow over the Clinton campaign from before she was officially campaigning, so any news about it will certainly be picked up by one side of the press and then the other.

They keep egging Sanders on to attack Clinton's email.

It's kind of like a click-bait news title—most people won't actually read the report (or the reports about the report) yet they'll gleefully express passionate opinions about it that adhere to their previous opinions about it.

People love to waggle their fleshy bits in righteous fury and terrible anger.

I think anyone still supporting Clinton at this point needs to hand in their progressive card.
