Romanian hacker: I breached Clinton server, 'it was easy' (May 4, 2016)

"The infamous Romanian hacker known as “Guccifer,” speaking exclusively with Fox News, claimed he easily – and repeatedly – breached former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s personal email server in early 2013.

"For me, it was easy ... easy for me, for everybody," Marcel Lehel Lazar, who goes by the moniker "Guccifer," told Fox News from a Virginia jail where he is being held.

"Guccifer’s potential role in the Clinton email investigation was first reported by Fox News last month. The hacker subsequently claimed he was able to access the server – and provided extensive details about how he did it and what he found – over the course of a half-hour jailhouse interview and a series of recorded phone calls with Fox News.

"The hacker spoke freely with Fox News from the detention center in Alexandria, Va., where he’s been held since his extradition to the U.S. on federal charges relating to other alleged cyber-crimes. Wearing a green jumpsuit, Lazar was relaxed and polite in the monitored secure visitor center, separated by thick security glass."

"A federal judge Wednesday approved a plan for the taking of depositions by several current and former State Department officials about Hillary Clinton's email server.

"The circumstances surrounding approval of Mrs. Clinton's use of clintonemail.com for official government business, as well as the manner in which it was operated, are issues that need to be explored in discovery to enable the Court to resolve, as a matter of law, the adequacy of the State Department's search of relevant records..."

A server that isn't diligently configured won't log everything you might need to show signs of hacking.

A competent hacker will take steps to avoid being logged.

An intruder who gained access through legitimate means, such as stolen credentials, might very well show up as normal permitted activity by an authorized user, in such logs as do exist.

Without knowing the level of competence of the forensic team, and the details of their investigation, an "examination of the logs" doesn't impress me at all.

Yeah, that FBI forensics team is probably ****. They can't even get into an iphone without buying the solution !

BTW, Guccifer isn't a "hacker". He is a password guesser. If he had been in Clintons email account, he would have posted her emails just like he did with other accounts he guessed his way into.

As it stands, he appears to be full of crap.
 
I feel like I somehow ended up at a zoo exhibiting petulant childish tantrums.
