Hey, Canadians, this one's yours...

Emmanuel quoted a couple of recent remarks by Maher, who referred to God as “a psychotic mass murderer” for flooding the earth to punish sinners in the biblical Book of Genesis and suggested the Almighty was even more of a “dick” than famously disagreeable actor Russell Crowe.

The evangelical activist said Maher is known for his anti-religious views, but Emmanuel said “this time he’s gone too far.”

“He may have protection under the First Amendment to say whatever slanderous thing that comes out of his toilet bowl brain, but that does not mean Christians should turn the other cheek,” Emmanuel said.

Wait, so Christians, should not turn the other cheek? Is that what Jesus taught?

And yes, the God of the Bible is a genocider. He repeatedly punishes whole cities, whole nations and in this case the whole planet for the sins of a few people or stuff that isn't even particularly bad in an objective way. Maher is hardly the first person to make this observation.

I had to Google Tristan Emmanuel to find out anything about him.
Certainly a big name here but nowhere near as big as Rob Ford.

I don't think Bill Maher has anything to worry about.

The first sentence made me chuckle:

"An evangelical activist laments that no one will defend God’s honor"

His god is apparently a wimp who cannot make an adequate defense to an insult, so he needs a human to do it for him.

Never heard of Tristan Emmanuel before. Based on the Wiki page about him he may be worth looking into occasionally for the entertainment value. I don't mind claiming him as one of our own - a few homegrown wacko's are good for a country.

I'd have put it in the USA's "right wing politics whacko" thread except that it turns it he's yours, Canada.

Sorry, didn't know you guys had that many up there. Hopefully they don't run the country like they nearly do down here.

Oh, we have cranks here too. It's just that either (a) they form a lower proportion of the public than is the case elsewhere; (b) they don't have as much access to the public airwaves and news as compared to elsewhere (for whatever reason); or (c) a combination of (a) and (b).

Even here in Alberta (which basically is the Canadian Texas) people seem to be pretty relaxed about religion. My only encounter has been an elderly gentleman who invited me to commemorate the death of ol' JC.

(I thanked him politely and put his invitation in the bin)
