Herman Cain Wants to Abolish the CBO

This strikes me as a bit Hitlerian. He would simply eliminate one of the most important resources that his opponents within government have to assess whether they should go along with his brain-dead schemes or not.

Ok, so judging by the lack of response on this from the right, I take it that no one wants to abolish the CBO along with Cain (by the way Gingrich agreed with him)? So does this fringe stance undermine your support for the guy or are you willing to overlook it based on his other, more reality-based views?

If he does away with the CBO, all of their function will rest with Executive Branch number crunchers, who will be under his direct control, and will massage the facts to suit his delusions.

He and his class want to create their own reality.

I say it is Hitlerian in the sense that both wanted to shift all real power to the Executive. The Reichstag were just there to figure out ways to do what the Leader wanted done.

Apparently, that is what Cain has in mind.

The thing that gets me is this:

Because he's a Republican, and in recent years the Republican position has been that anything in government (or even private groups) that has flaws in it should just be abandoned and destroyed, except for things like military spending, industry subsides, or controlling people's private lives.

They do not build today. They only destroy. Granted they believe that this destruction of government will let business pick up, but they aren't running for spots in the business world so the point still stands.

I'm sure Cain thinks that paying a private organization will result in more unbiased and accurate information, just like it did when the banks used rating agencies for their derivatives recently...

I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s deliberate, but Republicans certainly do think they are entitled to their own facts and dislike any institution that contradicts their version of reality so it’s no surprise at all they would dislike the CBO.

These are business people. They have marketing and advertizing people to diddle reality when it gets in the way of profit.

Perhaps Cain made the statement because he doesn't really know or understand what the CBO does?

No, he made the comment because the CBO's analysis of his economic plan pointed out that it relied on incredibly pollyannish predictions. (And if anything, I think the CBO tends to err on the side of optimism in their analyses.)

ETA: Oh yeah, the CBO analysis also pointed out that Cain's proposal would indeed further shift the tax burden off the wealthiest Americans.
