Herman Cain leads by 20 points!

I'm with Scrut on this one. I always had the sense that Cain's approach to this whole thing was very similar to when Alan Keyes ran for the U.S. Senate seat in Illinois back in 2004. Keyes was obviously not being serious in his run, because he just kept throwing out huge chunks of red meat to the extreme right-wing social conservatives of the GOP, even during the general election. The capper was when he publicly stated that "Jesus would vote for me over Obama."

Keyes lost by a stunning 70%-30% margin (or something to that effect), and - not surprisingly - within a few months of going down to a memorable electoral defeat, he came out with a new book. A book which sold like hotcakes, thanks in large part to his heightened public profile via the election and the throngs of slavering religious conservatives who lapped up his nutty diatribes like they were manna from heaven.

Sooner or later you'd think the GOP would get wise to clowns like these and keep them off the stage

The Stupid White Republicans love them simply and only because they are Black.

Give this a try, Foolmewunz.

I agree, Mittens has got to put some wins on the board other than NH or else the big money/party machinery is gonna hold their noses - and everything else - and switch to the Newtster.

Could you define who you think the "big money/party machinery" are?

Jesus, MaGZ, do you live in a hermetically sealed Faraday cage? Richard Mellon Scaife. The Koch brothers, their (literally) 10s of millions of dollars and their semiannual strategy conferences. FreedomWorks lead by Dick Army. The massive mega churches and their various networks, both formal and informal. The Heartland Institute. The American Enterprise Institute.

Let me know when to stop.

Buzzzzz! Wrong answer, but we have some lovely parting gifts for you. Tell him about 'em, Don Pardo....

The correct answer here on MaGZeopardy was, "Who are the Jews?" Bye, and thanks for playing.

Ah but that's an average of polls of likely Republican primary voters, not polls limited to sane people!

;)

Given the sorry state of politics in both parties, I'm becoming increasingly convinced that these "sane people" of which you speak are largely mythological.

From my usual source, the latest polls, still, of course, in advance of the Jan. 3 Iowa primary are:

Gingrich 26.6%
Romney 20.4
Cain 14.0
Paul 8.0
Perry 7.2
Bachmann 4.6
Santorum 2.6
Huntsman 2.5
undecided 14.9

So, Gingrich continues to gain, Romney holds on, Cain continues to drop, Paul holds steady, while Perry continues down. Given that Cain's followers aren't likely to support either Gingrich or Romney, it would b interesting to see if they would support Paul. If Paul absorbed that 14% + his own 8%, he'd have 22% and be able to challenge Gingrich and Romney.

It's really funny/sad. There's not a legitimate pundit I've heard who suggests anyone but Romney will be nominated. Who are all the yahoos who keep in favor of the "flavor of the month?"

I'm also curious to know whether or not Cain will endorse anyone, and if he does, who will it be?

Suspended!

Folks, he's not out. He's only suspended his campaign. Personally I put him behind David Duke.

As I understand it, RandFan, he "suspended" his campaign in order to allow him to continue fund raising, presumably to pay off existing debt or to fund other campaign-related activities. If he closed his campaign, those activities would no longer be allowed. So the "suspension" is just a legal formality.
