Merged Here comes another Aurora Borealis

Perfectly clear all night, storm didn't reach Seattle visibility, and now we get the 2nd sudden impulse indicating the X-flare, it's 10am!

Heard about this at Acadia National Park. One of the "dark skies" areas of the country, except for that giant full(ish) moon!

No aurora. Not even on top of Cadillac Mountain. Bummer. But still - the skies there! WOW!!!

Bump

G4, k8 geomagnetic storm as I type. May be able to see northern lights down to Alabama, Northern California.

Might be a problem for geezers like me around here. Sunset is at 9:30 pm sunrise at 5:10am. I either have to wait until near midnight to get a truly dark northern sky or wake up at 2 or 3 am.

The year and a half I spent in the high Arctic ( on Prince Patrick Island and Ellesmere Island mostly), never saw an Aurora. Apparently we were too far north! Least that's what I was told.
Summertime of course it wouldn't have mattered since it was 24 daylight, but from November through February we had mostly near to or wholly 24 hour night sky .

BUMP!
ALMOST CERTAIN) CHANCE OF STORMS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 90% chance of geomagnetic storms on Nov. 2nd-3rd when a fast-moving stream of solar wind is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. Solar wind speeds could exceed 800 km/s and spark a strong G3-class geomagnetic storm. Sky watchers in the USA should be alert for Northern Lights as far south as, e.g., Oregon and Illinois.

Holy crap! The weather report for my area looks good and clear!

Aaaand, all clouds all the time here.:(

I'm not surprised there's an almost certain chance of auroras but I was surprised at the prediction of how far south they might be visible.

It's my birthday and the weather is supposed to be clear tonight in the Finger Lakes of Western NY!

there is also a mammoth sunspot pointed our way that can blast x class flares.
