The official registration site says:

Only 10 applicants will be chosen, so make sure you practice! The Top 3 winners will receive prizes, and the others will receive the undying devotion of their fellow JREFers, or, more likely, simply be made fun of.

Update: I have secured a sufficient bed of nails, though if there were one local it'd be easier on me.

Regardless, if I plan on shipping this thing out to LV, I'm going to need someplace to ship it. Is there anyone who lives in or near LV to whom I can ship the bed (it collapses) who can then bring it to TAM? Or, is there someplace in LV I can ship the bed and have it stored until I get there?

Suggestions welcome.

Yes, there is more to it than that. Control is a big issue, because if you follow through too much and smash the hammer into the top bed of nails, there could be one less physics teacher to do the demo. Not to mention, you want to make sure you hit the target :)

Okay, so it's pretty much as I thought. Hit the block hard enough to break through it, but pull the blow so that it doesn't break you. Easy-peasy.

Like when the blacksmith says "strike moderate hard". You don't put your whole force into it, but you don't tap either.

And a 10lb sledge is my preferred weight too.

there are PRIZES people!!!

I won a signed Randi book on the cruise, with my fabulous "break a superstition" entry, so it wouldn't be fair to win this prize... I will make sure my talent is not as cool as a perforated lung and emergency room visit. I am familiar with local ambulance drivers and the the ER from last TAM (it wasn't me it was Loon, and driving in the front seat of an ambulance in Vegas is quiet the experience.....). I offer to escort you because trust me, the BEST show in Vegas is the interesting characters that end up in the emergency room. hhmmm... wait, I can see the ER doctor now "so how did this injury occur..."

Well last year they were shipped to an off-site address then Brodski Jeff and I carried them down stairs and loaded Jeff's van to drag them to the hotel.
