Heeeeeeere's Obamacare!

That was clear from your post.

Great, then the oy vey was hyperbole.

Says Who? Sebelius?

Of course. My original post was paraphrasing what she said in yesterday's hearing. From what she said, they were in the process of triaging the system so that it works.

1. Fix the front end so that people can enroll in the system.
2. Fix the 834s so that insurance companies have everyone who enrolled in their systems and that all data is correct (this is what they're working on now)
3. Finish up the payment system, and in the meantime, pay insurance companies in a manner they've agreed to. Since it makes no sense to pay millions of tiny checks, I'm assuming they'll pay them in a lump sum on some agreed upon schedule. She did not disclose the details (I wish she would have).

As I said earlier, this was a good question to pose to her, since if people are signing up, they should be covered and the insurance companies should be paid. This is a legitimate concern. From her answers, they've arranged things with the insurance companies so they can concentrate on the number one goal, which is getting everyone signed up on time. From her answers, I think they've gotten that figured out. Judging by the other stupid questions from the GOP, this seems to be the only real concern at this point.

Oh, and there's also the issue of the "state exchanges" vs "federal exchanges" and subsidies. Rather than inserting a once sentence update to the law to remove the ambiguity, the GOP is taking Sebelius to court in order to force millions and millions of Americans to pay more for their insurance. That's pretty ********** up, don't you think?

Does this take into affect all the young adults that will be covered by their parents due to the increase in age that young adults can be covered through their parents plan? Won't that absorb some of the young people not signing up?

Yes, some of those are included. Not all of those will be covered by their parents. If they're married or not in school, they can't be covered by their parents. At least, I believe the school part to be true; I know the married part to be true. You also have to figure not all the parents may be willing to pay for their 25 year old's insurance.

Actually, they can be married and still be covered. From here: https://www.healthcare.gov/can-i-keep-my-child-on-my-insurance-until-age-26/

If a plan covers children, they can be added or kept on the health insurance policy until they turn 26 years old.

Children can join or remain on a plan even if they are:

married
not living with their parents
attending school
not financially dependent on their parents
eligible to enroll in their employer’s plan

That is true that some parents might not be able to cover their kids, but lets say having their kids on their plan is only an extra little bit a month. Even the most ridiculous of teenager would hand over a couple bucks for health insurance.

I thought that was right. I actually saw that as a debate point on one of the sites that I was on. Someone was saying that the reason they weren't as worried about the young is because a lot of middle class families will continue to pay for their kids so the impact would be a bit less. I might be wrong, but I think that will help with a lot of the kids that don't want to pay. If they can cling on to mommy and daddy who have a family plan already...

Wait, you think they'll send the government millions of individual bills instead of a single bill to be paid by a single check?

Do you ever think anything through before you hit submit?

I realize there was some ambiguity in my post, but I was referring to the 834's. Care to re-evaluate your response?

Oi vey! Might as well go back to stone tablets and chisels.

Are those rapidly shifting goalposts I detect?

One way or another, the system is going to work. If it takes hiring a bunch of temporary workers to do filings by paper, then that's what it will take. I admit it isn't the most efficient way to do things, but it will work as a stopgap measure; hell, we won WWII and sent humans to the moon without modern computers, so we can do this, too.

And once all the kinks get worked out of the filing system and it's fully computerized, then it will work all that much better.

Yup, there it is

Meanwhile, since yesterday a few more enrollment updates have come in at Obamacaresignups.net - this includes an update from California dated 12/12 while many other states haven't been updated for at least a week or more. The net total of private enrollments so far: 640,000+

Amateur hour continues.

Ezra Klein recently suggested that it's time for some heads to roll. I tend to agree.

There was talk that he couldn't fire some people because it would be impossible to get replacements approved by the Senate, due to Republican obstruction ism, but now that the filibuster has been thrown out for appointments I don't see how that excuse can fly anymore.

Net total? This is 640,000 people who didn't have insurance before?

Health Care Exchange Is Vastly Improved, Users Say

Which means we're going to see the enrollment numbers climb even higher and even faster from now on. And the Republicans said it couldn't be done. Nice to see they have such a lack of faith in American know-how and stick-to-it-ness :)
Sibelius wouldn't explain what enrollment numbers actually mean, but it seems it counts people who (attempted via cart entry) to choose a Plan, with no one as yet having actually paid, that is actually enrolled. I.E. still stuck at zero. :p

You seem confused about what "straw man" means. It means a false representation of an opponent's argument. But I didn't present an opponent's argument. I presented my own. You could claim that the argument I presented is wrong, or that it's irrelevant, but it's still MY argument, not a claim about anyone else's. Therefore it is logically not possible for it to be a straw man, whatever else it may be.

Apparently you're confused about the meaning of the word "net" as well, as Newtons Bit pointed out. This is gross enrollments, not net. But in point of fact, it's not even enrollments, it's signups. Which isn't the same thing.

Isn't payment a contract between customers and the private companies they contracted with? Are you suggesting that the government should intervene on behalf of the companies and exert more control over individuals and the private sector?

ETA: Secret Obamacare handbook the feds don’t want you to see

A confidential training manual for Obamacare navigators that threatens prosecution for unauthorized dissemination is on the Internet for the world to see.

The 217-page manual reads like a primer for Amway or novice car salesmen, offering sales advice on how to disarm potential customers who could be lured into purchasing insurance through exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act.
