Has Mr. Phelps finally flipped?

So, I just got back from an Oak Ridge Boys concert in Topeka tonight, and our good friend Freddy from Westboro Baptist Church was there with his signs and some kind of technopop song blaring that said something like "God hates you." -- no, not "God hates fags" but explicitly "God hates YOU."

For those who might be unfamiliar with the Oak Ridge Boys, they are actually a former Christian Gospel quartet that started singing popular country music sometime in the 70's. Their hits include "Elvira," (circa 1981... I know this because there was a "30 years of Oom-papa-mow-mow" t-shirt offered), "Bobbie Sue" and "American Made." They tend to have a religious/patriotic theme to much of their music, and I'm pretty sure that none of them are gay.

My question is why the heck would Freddy choose this concert for a protest? It makes absolutely no sense as far as I can tell.

Didn't Facebook recently say something about a correction to the idea of 6 degrees of separation actually being 4.2 degrees? Therefore everyone is close enough to the devil to be a target of Phelps.

I'm fairly certain that Phelps thinks his "God" hates everyone, EXCEPT him and his.

These people have ever made sense?
When did Christianity ever 'make sense'? Phelps is either an idiot for believing what's written in the Bible, or a very successful Poe.

As for why? I think he does it to get laid. If I'm right, and it's working for him, then it makes perfect sense!

Christ on gilded crutches...as a guy who'll cop to damn near everything there are limits to what it takes to get laid. Old Fred's example is beyond the pale.

Can the Phelps family be thrown out of the country? Like is there some obscure law somewhere where you can literally take the whole family just drop them in Saudia Arabia? Also, how do these people earn money?

Yeah, I wondered how they earn their money. Surely no one would give them donations?

They're all lawyers and they sue the daylights out of anybody or any entity for "infringing on their civil rights". So, if they don't get a permit to protest or someone causes them any harm, bodily or otherwise, they sue...

Exactly.

They've come into my area to protest, both in general (they hate S.F. for obvious reasons) and to protest funerals - which is why I joined the Patriot Guards riders.

I'm one of the few on a sportbike, but a Suzuki Hayabusa with a modified motor and a Ti force exhaust can drown out a bigot with a megaphone any day of the week.

Up close, they're a weak bunch. As you noted, jumped up ambulance chasers at best.

Amusingly, they actually predict themselves that this will happen. When Louis Theroux interviewed them, they explained their prophecies of the future - that as they kept getting publicity and winning court cases, the US would rise up against them and eject them from the country. They'd then go and live in a cave in Israel (yes, seriously), founding a new church, whereupon a huge number of Jews would convert to join them, and Jesus would return.

So whenever you attack them, in their mind you're just proving them right.

I would love to see them... Just shipped off to Afghanistan and left there.

Many (if not most) of them have jobs. Several as attorneys.

Not really. I think they may have won a few small judgments over the years, but no multi-million dollar paydays, at least that I'm aware of.

The short answer is, they have jobs, just like everyone else.

I know they are attorneys, but who the hell would hire them?
