To me, this is on par with 1000 lashes for blogging.

Where are the victims?

22 years?

In almost all of the rest of the world, 16 is deemed old enough to consent to sex and it is insane to have laws which send someone to jail for having sex with any number of 17 year olds.

Do US mommies still wipe their boys' bottoms at 17? What 17 yo isn't having sex? Or wishing he was?

In a nice counterpoint to the often-seen difference in treatment of males and females by the justice system, Bernabe Flores only copped 8 years for raping a 12 year old girl.

It ain't just guns that's wrong with USA.

Agree or disagree, if she was found guilty on 37 felony counts and the sentence handed down was 22 years - more likely 7 in real terms - she got off easy.

Actually she is required by Florida statute to serve 85% of the sentence before good time deductions. There is no parole in Florida for convictions since the mid 80s. With this sentence intact, she'll serve roughly 18 years and 6 months before her first eligibility date.

I stand corrected - I'm so conditioned to California standards I forget that other jurisdiction have other sentencing guidelines.

So you agree that 17-odd years is satisfactory for a sexual relationship that would be perfectly legal in most developed countries and even some states of USA.
