Don't let the title fool you; I think this belongs here.

Well, it's almost that time of year again: buying LOTS of gifts for ungrateful family, stringing lights all 'round the house, hearing "Ho! Ho! Ho!" at every turn...

Oh yes, and the Nativity scenes that crop up almost everywhere.

What I'm mainly wondering is, how many people are going to try and proclaim "Happy Holidays" to the myriad throngs that will assail you this year? You know, the ones who merrily proclaim "Merry Christmas!" to *everyone* they meet, and expect the same in return?

Myself, I make it a point to say "Happy Holidays" because (a) there is more than one holiday going on at this time of year, and to single one out above the rest isn't really fair to the others, and (b) it annoys those who WON'T take ANYTHING other than "Merry Christmas" in response to no end.

I figure, if *this* bothers you more than anything else during the Holidays, consider yourself lucky...

My natural tendency is to greet people according to their beliefs, not mine. They believe in Christmas, I genuinely want them to enjoy it.

But now it seems to me that I have been assuming too much, and I often don't really know the other person's beliefs. So I think I'll jump on your Happy Holidays bandwagon, though for a slightly different reason.

Jump aboard! There's plenty of room. :)

I've always felt people should "bless" others with whatever they believe in and celebrate themselves. A follower of Judaism shouldn't try to guess the beliefs of a person they are addressing; a simple "Happy Hannukah" should be regarded as appropriate and well-intended.

Me? I'm partial to "Have a hell of a Saturnalia!"

Okay, now *this*, I like. :D

Last year's war on Christmas was a personal failure. This year, I declare war on Ramadan! No fasting for me. Woe to the first person who wishes me a "Rami Ramadan"!

How about a '"Rama Lama Ding Dong" instead? :D

I usually start wishing cancer on people... it puts me in the holiday mood.

Last year customers kept wishing me Merry Christmas and I finally remembered I was wearing a bunch of Christmas pins. :boxedin: When I was just wearing tinsel on my badge they said Happy Holidays. Being PC or hatred of Bill O'Reilly?

I find "Happy Holidays" to be extremely offensive since I consider no day holy, so all of you bastards wishing me anything can just bugger right off.

Here we say 'God Jul' which would loosely translate to "Have a good yule tide" so there's no Christian based word in the greeting to fight against.. I guess :)

It's pretty easy here to totally forget that Jul (Christmas) has anything to do with Jesus, especially these days. I've never had a problem celebrating Jul as an outspoken atheist.

How dare these Xtians hijack the various pagan winter solstice celebrations
for their little mythology!
