Happy Birthday Chappaquiddick!

Around 40 years ago, the most influential politician in Massachusetts got away with murder. Had Ted Kennedy been anybody else, he would have been sent to prison under any fair trial where he would have to raped and abused repeatedly. The penalty for vehicular homicide when it is suspected that alcohol has been used is usually either 5 years in a mild prison or 3 years in a sodomy rape one.

He dodged any alcohol charges because of his prominence.

If you're going to be a troll, at least you could have bothered to look up the exact date. Nothing worse than a lazy troll.

Vince Neil of Motley Crue didn't exactly get life for killing someone in his car while drunk. And so on down the list of rich and famous people who got away with stuff, etc. I'm already bored with this thread.

Just out of curiosity: was there any evidence found of Ted being fellated as he drove, perhaps contributing to the crash?

I've always wondered about that.

While Mary Jo didn't need to die in a wreck, I will observe that being a groupie, either for politicians or for rock stars, carries risks. Her number came up, which is a shame.

I said BELATED. I was thinking about someone who went to jail for a fairly long time that made me choose to post it today.

Why should the rich and famous be tried differently than everybody else?

I don't know. They speculate that Mary Jo was pregnant though.

Somehow that makes it right? Or acceptable?

You bore easily.

Has anyone seen the Linda Blair - Leslie Neilsen movie Repossessed?

They are on a ouija board and ask if Ted Kennedy will ever be president, causing the plectrum (or whatever it's called) to fly off knocking a toy car into a fishtank.

Because that was funny, OP is lame.

You are thinking of when Matthew Broderick killed two women in Ireland when being so accommodated by Jennifer Grey.

No, but now I'm gonna rent it. :)

A lady died and people are happy about it because it gives them an opportunity to criticize a Democrat. :(

(Not that there aren't similar ghouls on the other side of the aisle, probably.)

Uhh...the "happy" is ironic. I'm not actually happy, but angry about it.

Sigh, the equivacation/hypocrisy game...

It's not about hypocrisy or equivocation - it's just about it being a cheap sad way to score political points. Which is not to say that I don't think it's relevant and reflects on his character. Just, you know, he's not up for reelection, and what's the point?

It's also sad to wish for someone to get raped, no matter who they are.

Famous folks do get preferential treatment, it seems. If Robert Downey Jr. had been a regular guy he'd have mouldered in prison for years. Don't people get hundreds of years in prison for some drug convictions? Craig MacTavish barely missed a season when he drunkenly killed a woman. I have a co-worker who has a minor criminal conviction, and he's not allowed to enter the United States any more. Somehow rock stars who are foreign nationals who have drug convictions aren't shut out though.

And what about that rich guy who murdered a kid and tried to kill her mother, and basically bribed the jury and was acquitted? I can't remember his name, but the JR Ewing character was based on him. Damn, now I'm going to have to track that down.

T. Cullen Davis was the name of that murdering scumbag who screwed over the criminal justice system. If ever someone deserved to be dragged from the courthouse and strung up...

On August 9th, it will mark 35 years since Richard Nixon resigned the presidency. His flouting of the law, which would have landed most people in prison, and indeed did result in prison for many of his subordinates, was pardoned even before charges could be brought.

Is this relevant? Just as relevant as the Ted Kennedy story.

People from all across the political spectrum can be jerks who do bad things and get away with them. It's not really a competition. Otherwise we can get into the "Stalin was worse!", "Nuh uh! Hitler was worse!" debates, which are pointless.
