The last two years I did a little side trip I called Guns and Nukes to the Atomic Testing Museum and the Gun Store that usually had about 15-20 Forumites participate.

I got volunteered to do it again, but I need to beg off of at least part of it, because (1) I am also working at least two other side activities besides my own plans and (2) only 3 people have committed for the Museum and (3) I've been to the museum three years in a row and, really, it's a great little museum but 4 years straight is a bit much.

So I'll concentrate on the Guns and if somebody wants to do a side trip to the Atomic Testing Museum, I'll gladly provide any info they'd like to have.

So, onto the Guns. We have visited The Gun Store http://www.thegunstorelasvegas.com/gunrental.html which allows one to, upon suitable exchange of cash, shoot a weapon on a gun range with personnel monitoring you to be sure that you do not shoot (1) each other or (2) yourself. Types of weapons include pistols and various machine guns. So far I've shot a Thompson Submachine gun, an AK-47, and a Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). Haven't decided what to blast away with this time.

In the past we have normally done this Sunday afternoon after the papers have been presented and TAM closed. I would recommend keeping to that schedule, maybe leaving the hotel at 2PM (time for lunch and saying goodbye for those leaving early) and returning by 4PM at the latest (plenty of time for evening activities).

The store is open until 6:30PM, but since TAM sessions on Friday and Saturday often run past 5PM, that would be pushing it.

Would like any opinions and thoughts, and look for something when you register on Thursday near the Forum table for signing up. Need drivers to identfy themselves, I have a minivan but 12-20 people in a minivan is a violation of several laws, not the least the State of Nevadas'.

One more factor to consider for this year is, the Live MDC test is supposed to happen just after the Papers session on Sunday, so you might want to consider that effect on schedules.

Since the person will likely not show up, I'd say it will have no effect on the schedule.

And even if they do show, we already know they will fail, so what's the point?

Watching people fail is fun. I think that's why so many people follow me around at work.

Good point, maybe 3-5PM(?), that should be sufficient time for the test and people to get something to eat, and still back in time for any night activities.

This sounds like a lot of fun. Sadly, I won't have a car so I can't help out with the transportation.

Oh, Ye Of Little Faith! I mean, right, right, of course.

Sounds good. Wait, wait, I mean, What Kind Of Skeptic Are You?!!?!

I am going to visit Las Vegas one day.

The Gun Store is very much a "must do".

:bgrin:

I'd say she has a much better chance of showing up, than the guy who was supposed to be tested during TAM 5.5. She seems much less... shady... than the last fellow. Delusional, perhaps. But, much more serious in her faith in her powers.

And even if they do show, we already know they will fail, so what's the point?
First of all, it is arrogant to assume that. You don't know that, for sure. JREF has an obligation to give her a fair chance.

Second of all, just watching the protocol in action could be educational. You get a good, real glimpse into what controls have to be in place, etc.

I was at D*C for the demo version, which was very informative. But, the real deal would be even more so.

Sure I do. In fact, I'm so certain she will fail, I'm willing to bet $10,000 on it. Would you like to take the other half of the bet? I didn't think so.
I'm not much of a gambler, but I might be willing to bet a small amount of money that she will show up, at least.

Probably, like, $20 or something. Hardly sounds worth it, but.... It's more about the feeling of winning a bet against you, than it is about the money. And, besides, I'd rather not feel responsible for sending you to the poor house over something so silly, anyway.

For the record, I too will bet she will fail the test, once she does take it.
