Not only this, but it's striking that the OP is comparing two things which have entirely opposite aims; guns are generally made to injure or kill*. Death or injury is the result of proper gun usage. The aim of medicine is to heal and provide quality of life. Death or injury is the result of improper usage.


*I realize that some weapons, including certain types of guns, are purchased for collector value.

In one of those odd exceptions to your mostly valid rule up there, one of my bosses (when I had a part time job in High School) was a few years later pistol whipped, and, no crap, beaten to death with a gun.

I think the fella who did this didn't realize that continually whacking Tom on the head with that pistol might kill him.
I think he meant to leave him knocked out and bleeding.
Tom was pronounced DOA at the hospital.
He'd been lying on the pavement for a few hours when he was discovered.

In that bizarre case, a gun was used to kill someone and no bullet was expended.
 
I'm convinced. From now on, I'm keeping my physician locked up in a cabinet.
 
Seriously though... Doctors who shoot people. Which category gets the credit?

A more notable case of pistol whipping resulting in death would be Matthew ShepardWP.

...and very few Doctors are purchased for collector value. True, quite a few have been purchased in the past, primarily by the Tobacco Industry, but they were purchased to use, not just to accrue value.
 
In the same vein, how come we're always seeing wreaths and flowers by the roadsides where a person died in a car accident, BUT NOT IN HOSPITALS WHERE MORE PEOPLE DIE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE??!!!!
