Yeah I live in Lexington at the moment. I honestly was not aware that there were no problems with people who have taken the concealed weapons class. This makes sense of course. You have a source for that?

To add to this, it is also a "must issue" state, meaning that the Sheriff must grant the request for a concealed carry unless he can demonstrate a reason not to. So while the law is state level, the authority to issue is at county level.

If I heard someone breaking into my house would I be glad I had a gun? My answer would be no, but then gun ownership itself is a personalized, individual issue. The fact I'm a woman probably has a little to do with it. The fact I'd be afraid I'd shoot a family member has a lot to do with it.

You really would rather the attacker have complete control over you and your family? You are aware that even a warning shot is likely to scare off an intruder correct? Hmmm. You say that you would be afraid to shoot a family member. Is it possible that training could solve this? Yes, is the answer. But if you would rather an intruder be able to do as he wishes with you and your family, thats your business I guess. Me personally, I will NEVER let me or my family be the victim of some scumbag. But hey, to each their own.

How many gun related deaths are cut down due to "education"?

Well as I see the situation there are 3 distinct and separate categories of firearm fatalities.

First - Murder. Well I doubt that any amount of education is going to impact this.

Second - Suicide. Also very doubtful that any amount of education will impact this and tragically this category is more than half of all firearm fatalities. Removing firearms will only cause the person to use another method, as has been shown in studies.

Third - Accidents. Well here we do have some results to discuss. When the records first started to be kept about 100 years ago the number of fatal firearm accidents was well over 1000 incidents a year. Now with the pool of firearm owners and firearms available the number of fatal firearm accidents has decreased to about 800. I offer up the idea that this total incident decrease just might be due to education.

I can also bring up crime stories where no guns were involved - and no people were shot.

And I could bring up crime stories where no firearm was involved but someone still got killed. What is your point, other than trying to blow smoke?
