I guess lots of folks get Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi mixed up...poor states struggling with religious fundies.

Georgia seems to have escaped our fate, at least a little. Sure, they have their religious extremists too, but they also actually had a good governor a few years back (Zell Miller) and their education system is much, much better for it.
