Yeah, kinda exactly what I was thinking - does anyone know anything more about this "Scottish Society for Psychical Research"?

Again, I'm detecting large amount of bulls*it :)

Which particular bs did you have in mind?

Well there's this from their website for a start

Historical psychical research covers many topics but it is a fact that the careful and prolonged studies by psychical researchers, sometimes over decades, of mediums such as Mrs Piper, Mrs Leonard, Mrs Willett, Mrs Garrett and Miss Cummins have demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt to anyone of open mind that these psychics again and again could acquire knowledge in a paranormal manner

ETA I see that my link doesn't take you directly to the bit I quoted, click on the link labeled "research" on the left hand bar.

I guess there's been a sort of explanation of "triple blind" now, but my first guess was that in this case it means to do a double blind experiment and then ignore the results.

This made me laugh out loud. Bruto, you are now responsible for my cat looking at me in alarm.

There are some good people in the SSPR- In particular, I have a great deal of respect for Archie Roy, still a fine lecturer at 80. As a student, I attended several excellent astronomy lectures he gave , as well as having a couple of enjoyable arguments about the paranormal.

I don't think I'll offend anyone there if I say that the general ethos of the SSPR is definitely less than sceptical about the paranormal. That's why I think organisations like the SSPR- which actually are trying to investigate paranormal claims- would benefit from more sceptics joining up.
So anyone within an hour or two of Glasgow- the SSPR holds monthly lectures (generally 1st Thursday) in the Boyd Orr building at Glasgow Uni. 3 Quid to non members. There's usually a bunch in a bar or coffee shop afterwards. Go along, but not to heckle. Contribute by example. Nobody has thrown me out yet.
