GOP candidate says 9/11 attacks were a hoax

A Republican candidate for this area’s congressional seat said Wednesday that the U.S. government was complicit in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

In an editorial board interview with The Telegraph on Wednesday, the candidate, Mary Maxwell, said the U.S. government had a role in killing nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, so it could make Americans hate Arabs and allow the military to bomb Muslim nations such as Iraq.

Woo woo! She is an odd duck.

From that article:
"Maxwell has no political experience. She lived abroad for the past quarter-century with her husband, George, a pediatrician, and only recently returned to the U.S., she said.
* * *
Maxwell said the U.S. should withdraw from Iraq. She also questioned whether Congress authorized the war and said its members can’t explain that 2002 vote. (Congress authorized the use of force to defend this country’s security and enforce United Nations resolutions on Iraq.)"

She also believes England sank the Lusitania and although she's running in the GOP primary, the article lists her affiliations as "None".

Her webstie has a section called "good News" in which she unashamedly endorses 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

I have a feeling she's not going to garner a lot of votes come primary day.

According to her website (linked from the original article), she was a Democrat until a few years ago. Contradictorily, the Republican she most thinks she is like is Patrick Buchanan!

She also believes that matial law is "imminent" in the US
She has an entire section dedicated in her website ot the likelihood that the US will commence a nuclear war.

I would expect a marksman to be so dead on - she IS an odd one. I wonder to what length (if any) her constituents will go to either agree with her and defend her mental tangents, or distance themselves from her. :)

This could give credence to a woo conspiracy that the Dems, McKinney has been politically reincarnated as a Republican. ;)

Oddly enough, her website has no references to any position on either issue. She does describe herself as "libertarian" on domestic issues. I think that would make her pro-choice and pro-stem cell research. But some wings of the libertarian party are pro-life, so who knows?

At the moment I am trying to parcel the great news in a way that I can put it across at Tuesday night's meeting in Nashua (Aug 29, 7.15 pm at Holiday Inn on Northeastern Blvd, off exit 4 of Rte. 3). That is because I got unexpected media coverage about my 9/11 remarks, and so I want to be very clear in my next (live-and- in- person) communication.

Unexpected media coverage?

Sure. Because we hear congressional candidates accusing the government complicity in a plan that caused the deaths of thousands of Americans every day.

A libertarian who believes in conspiracy theories? No way!

In the future she'll claim to have been quoted out of context and that she was only raising questions about whether the government ignored red flags, not that she was accusing the govenrment of perpetrating the acts... even though that's clearly what she was doing.

...*shrug*... Putting on my JREF Million-Dollar-Challenge Extra Smart Thinking Cap I predict she'll poll in the single digits to low two digits in the primary, considerably worse than the execrable Cynthia McKinney did, proving once and for all that... eh, who knows what the hell it'll prove? New Hampshire has a lower wacko quotient than Georgia? Republicans have a lower wacko quotient than Democrats? They put fewer hallucinogens in the water in New Hampshire?

Maybe it proves that the Kool Aid the Republicans pass out has something bad in it - isn't Katherine Harris (the one who called the separation of church and state a lie to keep religious people from becoming politicians) running for the GOP? ;)

That's silly since, as I posted, this nut has almost no policies in common with the Kool-Aid drinking Republicans. She's not a member of the religious right. She wants immediate withdrawal from Iraq. I have trouble seeing any common ground between her and the President on foreign or domestic policy.

You're absolutely right, but I couldn't think of any other expedient response to BPSCG's assertion that only SOME politicians are affected. Sorry. ;)

Yes. I find it curious that she is running as a Republican. At what point did she decide that Democrat didn't fit and Republican did? What was it about that magic moment?

From her website, I'm guessing it was 9/11 that she decided she was GOP and with the invasion of Iraq she decided she wasn't after all (and then fell in with the cospiracy nuts). But that's just speculation.

her wacky website said:
"dear mary i live in northern ireland and am a british citizen. i came across your website via david ickes website and i just want to say well done i hope you get voted onto congress with all my heart america needs people like you who are brave and moral and speak the truth i believe your constitution is under threat and even if most of them dont yet know it they a are going to thank you for it in the future. as you have lived abroad you can see what is happening outside the box so to speak you’re a brave woman and good luck on 12th sept i wish i could vote for you" [emphasis mine --MdC]
Why am I not surprised?

This is New Hampshire we are talking about. Fusion politics is the game there, she could just be Republican to get the campaign boost and end up as a Republican-Libertarian or Republican-Democrat or Republican-Greenpeace or some other weird combo.

Libertarian strategery for New Hampshire

That being said, I don't think she is saying that 9/11 was a hoax, but that our government was complicit in it's planning and execution. She might be right, but all I have seen so far that, um, "supports" these allegations are references to how could a bunch of dumb Arabs with cell phones pull off something as big as 9/11 with no help? ... Not good strategery to underestimate your enemy.

Anyone have anything more substantial?

Translation: I couldn't think of anything intelligent to say, but that's never stopped me before.
