Goodbye Liberals?

What kills me is all the funding and special programs announced in the last 2 weeks that could now be "put at risk" by an election call.

Not only are they trying to buy us with our own money, they're making it sound as if the opposition parties are forcing them to be the bad guy, when they already had a significant period of time to put these programs into place BEFORE the risk of non-confidence raised its head.

Makes me want to puke!

Buying us with our own money? As much as I don't like the liberals, this seems like a pretty lame accusation. I mean, what else are taxes for? You pay them to governments so they can do things you desire that you couldn't buy on your own. The point is they should not bribe others with my money, as they did in Adscam. Or put my money in their own pockets.

Apparently, my second point wasn't clear enough. Yes, I expect government to wisely spend my taxes to the benefit of the country as a whole.

But, suddenly announcing a bunch of stuff they could/should have taken care of earlier in their mandate, and then laying the "but it won't happen if there's a non-confidence vote" is what makes me want to puke.

To me, it's like they're saying "Look at all these bags of money we have waiting for each and every one of you! Isn't that fabulous??!! It's too bad that those meanies in the other parties are going to prevent us from giving you these bags of money." without even addressing that it's our money to begin with.

Like Ralph is doing, but without the meanies?

Hey, don't diss the Ralphbucks.

That's a 'Definitive Calvin & Hobbes' for me.

To an extent yes, but to a greater extent, no.

Ralphie is giving us cabbage, and paving roads, and building this and that, and giving money for schooling and healthcare, but there is no election in sight.

Yes, it's our collective money. I think Ralph, et al, has been doing a better job of applying it, per capita, than the federal party that's been in power for about 13 years now.

I wonder how things would be in Kleinlandia if their subsoil wasn't filled with oil?

Probably a lot like Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Don't think I don't appreciate that black gold.

Excellent choice. I am thinking about a really good bottle of whisky.

Or a wheelbarrow full of hookers and blow.

Or camera gear, not that $400 will get much.

Hookers and blow sounds like a good choice though. Tax free purchases, and all, so really, you're making the most of your cheque.

Name me a government in power that doesn't do this. I have yet to see a government especially one that's in trouble who doesn't. The types of goodies handed out differ from party to party that's the only difference.

I wish I could.

Some days I think I should go into politics, and other days I realize that if I did, I'd spend most of my time serving game misconduct penalties, or whatever they give you when you swear at people and beat them up by the bike racks after school....uh legislative/parlaimentary session I mean.

Sometimes I think it might do a few of them some good to get smacked around by a few average Canucks :) though I doubt it would do some good. I also get the feeling from alot of politicians that they think we should be thankful that we have them representing us because they are so much smarter than we are. Layton comes across like that worse than anyone in the current crop though Cretien could give him a run for his money and Mulroney had it in spades (I'm an equal opportunity politician-hater).
