Got any? Not personal. What I'm hoping to find is one good news story for 2007. Anything cool discovered medically or in technology?

I've wracked my brain and googled the net, but have not come up with anything that the general public would find good news. I can think of lots of good skeptic news, but I have to address a more general audience, and need something any old Joe can relate to.

Please help :o

Didn't Gardasil's usefulness as a vaccine against HPV and resulting cervical cancer come out in 2007? That's pretty good news. But it might have been news in 2006, I'm not sure.

Yeah, but my teachers don't like vaccines, and have said so to all of their classes. I doubt that my audience will find that tidbit inspirational or impressive :(

Al Gore got the Nobel? That's good news on a couple of different levels, take your pick.

Global warming is a depressing issue. What else you got? Did he figure out how to stop it? That would be news. Reversing it would be a catsotrophe though. I don't want to sink into another ice age. It gets cold enough here for 5 months of the year already :p

I bought a half-stack and a motorcycle... how's that for good news?

Can you suggest a good economy vehicle for Canadian winters that will accomodate a family of five that is under 10 grand? I need something, asap :D Nice motorcycle *is impressed*

Snort. Your teachers ought to try having polio, then.
They said good nutrition (eating healthy) and things like alternatives (oils) will keep your immune system strong so you don't have to worry about getting sick. I know I know, I will get to comment on these things in a month or so.

So basically, I can't find anything that counts as good local or world news of note. I'll have to go about this at another angle. *grumbles*

If that's the kind of bollocks your teachers are teaching, it's time to find new ones.

Seriously. Very seriously.

Agreed. What kind of teachers in what kind of school believe the conspiratorial codswollp about vaccines? Do they bring bottled (tap) water to school for their kids so they don't get the flouride from the drinking fountains?

Tokie

No, they taught us that bottled water causes cancer, especially if you let it get too cold, and *gasp* allow it to freeze. They read us "documents" that were supposedly from the Johns Hopkins University. I googled the junk, and found out they were emails that Johns Hopkins University devoted web pages to debunking, since they don't like being attributed to such horrendous misinformation.

yeah, it's been a rough year, but I graduate in a couple of weeks.

Okay, nuff bad news...

Any other good news?

I couldn't. I paid my non-refundable tuition and had to suffer through 10 months of stuff like that. We got a special guest in to teach us the wonders of homeopathy & flower remedies, and got a lecture on how great Deepak Chopra is... and shown how to get our chakras defined on his site.

We also got told by my teachers that chemo is just a form of euthanasia, and that you have to start alternative treatment early for cancer or risk dying. Don't go for conventional treatment, as those poisons (radiation and chemo) will just wear down your body faster and allow the cancer to kill you sooner.

All drugs are bad, even Buckley's cough syrup. If you get a cold, only take zinc lozenges if you feel you need some sort of cough drop. The drug companies pay doctors to push drugs and keep us sick and hooked on them.

The one constantly reminded us that the Epstein-Barr virus causes chicken pox (and I guess not the varicella-zoster virus).

I could go and on... :(
