Good article about atheists

Tai, I have somewhat of an issue myself with the use of the word "belief". However, as others have noted, I used it in the manner in which it was used in the article, to mean "I accept based on evidence which has been presented but which I haven't actually experimentally verified myself" or something similar to that.

So you accept things based on supposed evidence you haven't seen. You have faith that this evidence you haven't seen is of high quality, apparently enough to accept it.

Oh Tai, you are so desperate and it shows. Remember the good old days when religion had so much more power? When the religious would have been ashamed and embarassed to have to make such a desperate argument in favour of their myth? And now, it is all that is left to them.

As an atheist, I am embarassed for you. Just as I am embarassed for the tv host who cannot say that the world is not flat because doing so will destroy the feeble argument she has made in support of her god.

Just like the ignorant muslims who thought flying a couple planes into buildings would halt the Western advancement that is replaciong their stone aged beliefs, you seem to think that pathetic arguing over the meaning of words will stop reasoning and enlightenment from replacing your stone aged beliefs. At least they have a dramatic aspect to their actions, yours lack even that. To anyone witnessing them, yours are just pathetic and embarassing.

Is this supposed to be an attempt at humor, or are you really serious? Because if your serious, that is a really inane comment.

As an Atheist, I believe I'll have another beer, it's Friday after all.

Alas, T'ai labors under the delusion that he is extremely clever. To preserve this delusion he has gone so far as to put anyone who has ever pointed out any of the numerous flaws in his logic, however politely, on his ignore list. He claims to have upward of 150 people on ignore. This act of intellectual cowardice is something he actually brags about.

More than likely you just don't understand the logic involved.

If you're saying even atheists believe in something, then you're saying belief is the ultimate determiner of your worldview.

If you're saying, well it is belief, but belief in evidence, this is the same as saying that you don't believe (ie. don't have faith).

So either you do, or you don't, have faith.

Sorry, I missed this the first time back in Dec.

You apparently do not realize that "belief" is not the same thing as "faith". One can have a belief that is based on evidence. The fact that some beliefs are _not_ based on evidence does not entail the proposition that _all_ beliefs are not based on evidence. You seem to be suggesting they are, which to me is quite silly.

The question: "do you believe X", is logically distinct from the question "what is the evidence for X". It is only when the evidence is poor or nonexistent that a belief is based on faith. Beliefs based on evidence are still beliefs. In fact, what would you call a belief based on evidence, if not "belief"?

Your entire assertion seems very nonsensical.
