Is Jesus also god in your religion? There's so many flavours it's confusing. If you're restricting me to just the NT Jesus then I'd have to say that my hatred stems from the condoning of slavery, the denigration of women to the level of servants, the ambiguity of his pronouncements that allows his followers to go completely mental and still think they're following his word and his killing of a fig tree just to make an allegorical point.

And that's why I think god is an outdated concept. We've matured as a society beyond those ways of thinking.

DR, I saw this happen. A young, vulnerable, lad moved to our town, joined the church my family went to after being convinced of all the wonderful things that were going to happen to him after he died... (or maybe he was just lonely in a new town) and who then went right to the brink of a nervous breakdown because he was gay but was trying his best to deny his nature and conform to their rules. He left the church in the end, but he was a wreck.

No, I've encountered a few, and I'm sure they are actually most, who simply do not believe and are not much concerned about it all, just like most believers simply believe and do not make much of it to others.

Unfortunately, evolution moves by fits and starts, and does not affect all members of the same species equally or at the same time. Thus we have enlightened atheists rubbing shoulders with thoughtful agnostics and ignorant religionists. Give it another couple-thousand years or so.

Faith both proves nothing and requires no proof for validation. Thus, proof against faith is also ineffective. Constructing a fallacy-free and fact-based argument to refute a religionist's faith is an exercise in futility.

With all due respect, you seem to be operating under the assumption that theists are reasoning people. They're not. Most rely on the baseless certainties that religion provides them, rather than the evidence-based, less-than-100% certainty that is inherent in scientific inquiry.

I knew that it was a bible derived god, which is enough to assign it to the hate bucket. In truth I don't normally leap in that fast, but I was backing Complexity's play.

I condone the use of any natural resources as long as it's done in a responsible fashion. But to kill a tree just to make a point? that's wrong. Jesus could have said "Hey guys, imagine a fig tree that didn't produce any figs, well, when my dad comes back he's going to burn that tree. Do you get it? The tree = you guys, so get busy with the fruits." Simple.
