GOD Colbert is just awesome

The most astounding thing about McElroy out promoting The Revisionaries is that he cannot come across as anything other than the villain...

... though, now that I think about it, I'm sure Creationists and other wingnuts will think he's a hero standing up for, well, something.

The most astounding thing for me is that he agreed to go on the Report. It's not like it's the show's first season, didn't he research it? Is research also a leftist plot?

Good to hear. Was he actually dumped because he's an idiot?
Well, it's an elected position, so we can hope.

ETA: the other thing is that these people are shooting the state [themselves] in the foot. One of our fastest growing industries is biomedical. I can't imagine how people like McLeroy think these multimillion-dollar companies are going to hang out here if we start producing a state full of scientific illiterates. They'll just go somewhere they don't have to import their entire workforce.

Do you really think he thinks that deeply?

Penn commented on this phenomenon once, saying that they sent people a video of "********!" so they would know what kind of treatment they might get. He said they usually agreed to appear anyway. There's a degree of self-delusionment (if that's even a word) involved that explains why they believe in the whacky crap to begin with.

I'll buy that for a dollar.

I couldn't believe he'd agreed to be on either.

Or he thinks that God will work through him and he'll argue Colbert around the stage until he cries like a little girl...

Colbert: But the changes that you called for in the textbook aren’t just evolution, you also wanted to remove references to Thomas Jefferson and his importance in the founding fathers. Why was that?
McLeroy: Actually, that’s not true.
Colbert: I have personally chosen that it is true.

You could actually see the cognitive dissonance in that one, his brain went offline for diagnostics for a second and then boop, right back up with the next thought as if nothing happened.

Actually, I think this guy knew exactly what he was in for, and was well prepared for it. He didn't try to get into any debates, didn't try to justify himself much...just a few simple statements about his ideas, and then smile and nod at Colbert's comments.

There's a saying that there's no such thing as bad publicity, and there's a whole bunch more people who know about his book now, who may buy it simply to see what nonsense he is peddling.

It's win-win for him. Those people who believe the same things he does will see him as a victim of that terrible Colbert guy; those people who don't believe what he believes won't change their opinion, but a few of them may buy his book.

He was a bot, reciting his spiel with utter disregard to the other side of the conversation. Typical "believer" tactics.

I'm technically in Canada and have no problem accessing thedailyshow.com and colbertnation.com and all their content.

Some of you guys' internet skills and google-fu are pretty weak. I'll bet you use Internet Explorer too. For shame.

Ads? I keep forgetting those can be bothersome.

I'm old enough to remember the internet before ads. I try to make my browsing experience as adless as possible.

Great interview by Colbert. The context of what Joobz mentioned is really needed.

McLeroy: When it gets to those good old evolutionists, they would have us believe so much that needs to be explained by ungodly natural processes, and frankly if you look at the complexity the cell--I’m a skeptic. I’m a skeptic. When I see that all this is a result of ungodly processes and see how complex it is, so I have become a Creationist.
Colbert: OK. So, how do you believe the world began, how long has it been here, and did we share the planet with dinosaurs?
McLeroy: Yes.

Colbert: Human beings and dinosaurs walked side by side?
McLeroy: That is my personal belief.
Colbert: That’s your personal scientific view?
McLeroy: Absolutely.
Colbert: I agree with you. Science can be a personal choice.

Later...

Colbert: But the changes that you called for in the textbook aren’t just evolution, you also wanted to remove references to Thomas Jefferson and his importance in the founding fathers. Why was that?
McLeroy: Actually, that’s not true.
Colbert: I have personally chosen that it is true.

ZING!!!! :D

(Not to mention the zingers inbetween!)

That kind of humor has to require an exceptional level of intelligence and wit. To be able to think on the fly and a turn an argument back to the arguer with such grace is a trait I envy.

Watch the Colbert Report some more. The zingers in this interview were super easy. He gets some he on the hard stuff as well.

And watch the Daily Show as well (just before the Colbert Report). Colbert was on the Daily Show before he got his own program. He excelled in zinger comedy interviews.

Colbert is impressive with the zingers and jokes, but Jon Stewart (of the Daily Show) is probably the best interviewer of all human kind. Barbara Walters used to be considered a great interviewer. Jon Stewart takes it to a whole other level.
