Global Warming scare....

Quick answer to part 1- water can be cleaned pretty well indefinitely, but it takes energy and so has costs.

Quick answers to part 2.
Yes, No, Maybe.
Choose one.

It really is very complicated. People get very heated about it (which is bad, as it worsens the situation).

Current state of the art water purification is by "reverse osmosis", much more efficient than distillation. Even filters virus's out. But most drinking water is chlorinated. 10 drops of chlorine bleach in a gallon of New Orleans bane would make it safe for most citizens. Or the survivalist tool, a hand pumped reverse osmosis filter about the size of a ten speed bicycle pump.

As far as AGW causing drought, I would think the changing weather pattern would cause more rain overall- less glacier melt, but greeener deserts somewhere? Welcome back, Sahara Forest? Time to change the name of the Null Arbor Plane? Reversal of the North American westerly flow would bring more water to the western deserts- the lower Appalachians will block less clouds than the higher Rockies...rice padddies in Nebraska?

But wait, glaciers melting only means that the average temp is warmer. Since glaciers are basically cold storage of rainfall, and if rainfall is increasing from heat, than there could actually be MORE water in the Gangee than before?
