The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for March 2016 was the highest for this month in the 1880–2016 record, at 1.22°C (2.20°F) above the 20th century average of 12.7°C (54.9°F). This surpassed the previous record set in 2015 by 0.32°C / (0.58°F), and marks the highest monthly temperature departure among all 1,635 months on record, surpassing the previous all-time record set just last month by 0.01°C (0.02°F). Overall, the nine highest monthly temperature departures in the record have all occurred in the past nine months. March 2016 also marks the 11th consecutive month a monthly global temperature record has been broken, the longest such streak in NOAA's 137 years of record keeping.

Amazing! The MAYOR of Miami says the State of Miami Florida will not effect any remedy as they don't believe in global warming? :jaw-dropp
You couldn't make this stuff up, seriously! <shakes-head>

FTFY.

I am not proud of my home state. I loathe my governor for doing this. Thankfully, he is very unpopular in this state and shouldn't win re-election. Granted, the democratic party last time ran an unpopular republican against him (seriously) which is how he got elected in the first place. There were no good options.

Here was a recent video of Rick Scott captured in the Starbucks a couple blocks from where I live, with him getting yelled at by a local citizen (NTFW due to the governor being called a naughty word in the first few seconds):

Scientists will start to evaluate news articles for scientific accuracy.

Climate scientists are now grading climate journalism

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/climate-feedback-a-guide-to-reliable-climate-news--2#/

"While the internet puts information at our fingertips, it has also allowed misinformation to sow doubt and confusion in the minds of many of those whose opinions and votes will determine the future of the planet."
[snip]
Climate Feedback intends to change that. It brings together a global network of scientists who use a new web-annotation platform to provide feedback on climate change reporting.

It's so good to see this

Dr David Bahr, an associate professor at Regis University and Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research, University of Colorado, was one of the scientists who analyzed Taylor’s “Top 10 lies” article, and commented on its overall scientific credibility:

“I have rarely read such a misleading and factually inaccurate article,” he wrote. “This is not science journalism and has no place in a magazine that purports to be a leading source of reliable news. It cannot qualify as an informed or informative opinion piece, and Forbes does their readers a great disservice by allowing the publication of blatant falsehoods.”

"“This article simply ignores the essential principles of good scientific journalism: Truth and accuracy, independence, and impartiality. The article is plagued with inaccurate information and false statements about climate and glacier change.” – Dr. Tobias Sauter commenting on the “Updated NASA Data” article."

Forbes is not a publication of noted or respected science, yet alone good science journalism, why would anyone expect it to be? Forbes is merely a specialized business fanzine.

So you don't think that scientists debunking bogus climate science articles in the media is a good idea? It is not just Forbes magazine that they are focused on.

Do you not believe that people's opinions are swayed by the media such as Forbes magazine?

Why do you think so many people are so willing to vote in a climate science denier?

US election 2016: Donald Trump sweeps five US states
-no link needed

......................

A startling new study led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (the federal research arm of the National Science Foundation) published Wednesday found a disturbing trend – a warming planet could overwhelm natural variability and start to significantly affect oxygen levels in the oceans in just 10-15 years.

"Global warming? Gimme a break," Trump laughed, ridiculing the historic Paris climate agreement just signed by 175 nations and President Barack Obama's laser focus on the issue in his second term.

Trump, who now stands a 50-50 chance of becoming the next American president, literally dismissed global warming out of hand as a joke and not something to be either understood or addressed. But the ocean's marine life will, at some point in the not-too-distant future, begin to disagree with him. Silently, struggling to breathe.

US is not COTU ....the majority of the population understand it is happening. There is a voacl repugly minority clinging to denial...
Even Exxon has changed its tune.

Individuals and states are moving forward regardless of what the denidiots at the Federal level are blathering about.
Even in Chicken Alaska the future has come to call

One thing that is a concern and around the world ..there is less support for doing something significant about AGW.

I don't think Trump has anywhere near a 50-50 chance.

No, I do not. I believe that people bring their personal biases to such fanzine forms of media and will embrace anything which confirms those biases and be blind to anything that discounts or rejects those biases. These people will never see, nor correct their own beliefs based upon such authoritative refutations. If they were open to changing their minds based upon science fact they wouldn't hold those biases to begin with.

Such efforts are, at best, a distraction from the actions that need to be taken.

Seattle smashes record for hottest April on record

http://komonews.com/weather/scotts-weather-blog/seattle-smashes-record-for-hottest-april-on-record
Seattle finished up the month with an average temperature (high+low divided by 2) of 56.7 degrees, totally obliterating the old record of 53.6. That's akin to the Seahawks scoring 75 points in a game.

Beating a monthly temperature record by 3.1 degrees is also a record, besting last June's sizzler which "only" broke the previous record by 2.7 degrees. April now joins February, March, June and July that have their all time monthly average temperature records set in 2015 or 2016. And don't forget, October and December's records are just from 2014.
(...)
In fact, it wasn't just hot for April, it was even warm by May standards. Seattle's average May temperature is 56.0 degrees and the National Weather Service office in Seattle says this past April has been warmer than 46 of the past 71 Mays on record.

And May itself is off to a roaring start with highs in the 70s Sunday warming into the 80s on Monday. Should May's record be nervous too? Long range forecasts from NOAA suggest it'll be another warmer than average month...

Just a few data points

I think we are long past the need for the science community to debunk the idjits. It's just a complete waste of resources and The question has moved on to policy.

Science needs to inform policy - not fight a battle already won. Climate change denial is the realm of cranks. Not that they are not on occasion dangeroud....but in the same way evolution deniers are.....rare pockets of blithering stupity.

will be interesting to see the stats as El Nino winds down.

Are we perhaps in a new regime? The north seems to be on its own trajectory.

To my understandings, this is the new trend of accelerating changes that we will get to enjoy for at least the next several centuries.
