You are probably correct.

America has an endless supply of stupidity, fear, ignorance and hatred that is ripe for political manipulation. Beck is simply taking advantage of this ignorance.

In this case, he is simply pandering to the religious right. Biblical literalists who believe in a young earth and special creation. People who send their kids to faith based schools to protect them from contrary views. Training another generation to distrust science and dismiss the evidence for evolution.

He doesn't deny it, he just seriously doubts it. Beck states that if God says to him in the hereafter "You came from a Monkey" he would be surprised but he would accept it.

i would be surprised as hell too if God told me I came from a monkey. Seeing as how my mother likes to remind me of my birth.
