I'm actually considering getting into podcasting with some of my friends. Does anyone have any tips on how to get started? What sort of software and equipment (other than a computer) do I need?

Thanks.

Assuming that you want to create your own podcasts, you need:

Hardware:
A computer
At least one microphone
-I suggest a condenser mic like the Audio Technica AT2020 or AT4040, (depending on your budget.)
Audio input device
- The M-Audio MobilePre is a good one for the price. It's USB powered and can supply phantom power to the mic
Headphones
- A lot of broadcasters like the Sony MDR 7506

Software:
Don't know if you're on Mac or Windows so,
Mac:
GarageBand--great for creating and editing your entire podcast, including any background music you need
Sound Studio--good shareware audio editor, no music creation
CastEasy--best software for posting and distributing your final podcast
Windows:
Audacity--free, cross-platform audio recorder/editor
Adobe Audition--most expensive package in the bunch, but a good audio editor
MixCastLive--software for posting and distributing your final podcast

Also check out the Podsafe Music network at music.podshow.com. It's a great source for royalty-free music to play on your show.

Hope that helps!

Well, I'm thinking of starting a gaming-related podcast. But stealpick ponited me in the right direction. Thanks.
