John Mica was "elected" to the House of Representatives without receiving a single vote. And I do mean "elected" not appointed. In Florida when you run unopposed, you are "automatically reinstated in Washington." You name does not appear on the ballot. There is no opportunity for a write in ballot. You "win" the election without the election actually taking place. To make matters worse, Mica was unopposed in the Republican party. He was "elected" this year without voters ever getting a chance to vote for or against him.

I wonder what would happen if someone wrote in their own name with a note saying they were running for house of representatives. It would seem to me that they would have a strong case for winning the election.
