The whole drama started last night when a police officer spotted Zimmerman in his pickup parked at Pompano Pat's. Sgt. Chris Estes questioned Zimmerman. According to Estes, "[Zimmerman] said he had permission from Pat Johnson to do night security but our officers could not make contact with Pat Johnson to verify that so we did an information report." But Sam Porter, the shop's gun sales manager, said that Zimmerman is not an employee of Pompano Pat's: “George Zimmerman is not an employee of the business and he is not getting paid in any way, shape or form by Pompano Pat’s.”

Reading over this story in the Daytona Beach News-Journal, it seems like Pat Johnson probably knew Zimmerman was doing this volunteer guard duty. But they're being pretty vague about whether Pat asked him to guard the store, knew he was guarding the store, etc. They're actually claiming the whole thing is somehow a political dirty trick to connect Johnson, albeit very tangentially, to the killing of Trayvon Martin.

An official statement from Pompano Pat's said: "ANY and ALL reports made to the media or other agencies that Pompano Pats or its Corporate President-Pat Johnson hired George Zimmerman as a ‘Security Guard or Night Watchman’ are 100% false. Our company and its founders learned of his recent sighting from mass media reports." But the two men clearly know each other. Johnson did stage a bit of a publicity stunt last year offering to replace the gun Zimmerman used to kill Trayvon Martin with a new Kel-Tec PF-9. And the DeLand's Deputy Police Chief, Randel Henderson released a statement saying that "Every indication illustrates that Mr. Zimmerman was at the store with the knowledge of the owner.”

Because if there's one job this guy ought to have, it's patrolling the streets with his guns. But what kind of person does unpaid security work, at night, for a gun shop?

Some discussion elsewhere mentioned he might be working for the shop owner under the table. No income, no taxes. He's sitting behind the gun store, what possible good does that do?

Well...if the burglers saw him in front of the store then they wouldn't try to rob the store - and George wouldn't have an opportunity to shoot them.

Could be that the shop owner is balking because of the term 'security guard'. Security officers have to be licensed by the state (and since the article says the shop owner employs real ones, they know that). I was a licensed commissioned (armed) security officer in Texas. There, at least, it's an entirely different testing process from concealed carry resulting in an entirely different license. Qualifying for one does not qualify you for the other.

I love this story to no end.

I'm sure there's a Progressive somewhere reading this story and wishing a) Batman was real, b) he did revenge, and c) he did killing.

The idea of a Progressive somewhere, praying to Revenge Murder Batman like he was their own personal Jesus tickles me pink.

That's a rich fantasy life you're demonstrating, all right.

I cannot make a bit of sense of your post, theprestige. But the mere possibility of tickling you pink makes shivers crawl up my leg. How can we proceed? Will it violate the MA? Will the NSA know? Will it show up in Boner's lawsuit against the prez? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ummm... I have a feeling the only person having that fantasy is you.

Also, could you please extrapolate on how exactly you are deducing that scenario from the story being discussed in this thread??

I mean, I could be wrong. Could be that nobody who follows Zimmerman's activities, wishes he'd received some justice other than the justice he got. Could be that nobody who starts a new thread every time Zimmerman does something, wishes some force other than reality would lay some kind of retribution on him.

But somehow I doubt it.

Go ahead: Tell me there's no hard feelings. Tell me you take note of his antics, you read these threads, purely because to you he's just a minor celebrity and you follow him the way some people follow Kim Kardashian.

The OP simply illustrates that Zimmerman is one of the biggest morons to walk the earth at this time. I enjoy being reminded of this fact. He may not, officially, be a murderer, but he is, officially, an idiot.

I think you're confused about which viewpoint supports lethal vigilante justice against "undesirables".

The man is a saint. A saint, I say. He's so giving and loving that I can't fathom why he hasn't been given the Nobel Peace Prize.

Typical day for George Zimmerman.

"Hey George, whatcha doing tonight? Wanna catch a movie? Wanna go see some live music? Go for a hike?"

"Nah, thought I'd go sit in my truck all night with my dog, guarding an empty gun shop. And I plan on doing this every night for no pay, because REASONS"

"Wow, George, you're living the dream!"

Go ahead: Tell me there's no hard feelings.

That a man like this has become a hero to the gun waving right is where the hard feelings come from. George Zimmerman is obviously mentally ill, but what's the excuse for the rest of them? Did you read in the story how the owner of the gun shop made headlines by offering to give Zimmerman a free Kel-tec 9 just because the big bad Law had taken away his gun while he stood trial for murder?

And now Zimmerman is spending late nights sitting in a truck guarding the guy's gun shop, for free, and you don't think this is just the wackiest thing you've ever heard?

These kind. http://www.nytimes.com/1992/05/03/u...n-bitter-armed-determined.html?pagewanted=all
But this morning, amid the empty shelves of the Western Gun Shop, the two men spoke in anger and despair of the failure of the police to protect them, of the collapse of their American dream, and of a sister and sister-in-law who are now hospitalized with gunshot wounds fired from a crowd of looters.

"I want to make it clear that we didn't open fire first," said David Joo, manager of the gun shop. "At that time, four police cars were there. Somebody started to shoot at us. The L.A.P.D. ran away in half a second. I never saw such a fast escape. I was pretty disappointed." 'Please Call Ambulance'

Really? I was trying to justify Zimmerman's actions? I was not. I was responding to your query about what kind of person guards a gun shop. I provided an example. You think gun shops guard themselves?

No, I didn't ask what kind of person guards a gun shop. I asked what kind of person guards a gun shop, for free, night after night, just because they feel compelled to guard a gun shop.
