George Will leaves GOP due to Trump

I've always liked George Will.

Well, he's been a very harsh Trump critic for quite a while.

Link? Don't see "George" or "Will" in any thread titles in the politics thread.

My bad, it was this post, rather than a new thread.

Will responded on "Fox News Sunday," saying: "He has an advantage on me, because he can say everything he knows about any subject in 140 characters and I can't."
It was a memorable funny. :D

Proof again that for Trump honesty and consistency take a back seat to insulting anyone critical of him.

Wait, wait, wait. Did Donald Trump just refer to himself in the third person?

Well, when he speaks of himself in the third person that's because he wasn't there and speaking of the one who was there.

I think it's more important that he just admitted he has a clone... or that he is a clone, depending on which one was doing the speaking.

Wait, wait, wait. Did Donald Trump just refer to himself in the third person?

Wouldn't be the first time I've heard him do that.

Here are some more examples:

ETA: after all, this is a man who pretended to be his own publicist. It gives away the game if you accidentally refer to yourself in first person.

The man's greatest, and perhaps only, skill is in branding. The one thing he has really been successful in branding is his own name.

Perhaps he was referring to the brand rather than himself?

This is a rare moment of agreement for both George Will and Sam Donaldson.

Not sure it's enough to bake a cake about, but yes.

I have a vision of the RNC convention floor dividing like an amoeba as the remaining Republicans decide to start a new party and let Donald keep that one.

I think that divide is happening with the sheer number declining to attend the convention.

Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer's secret society splits just to avoid him. I wonder if the new party will be called The Notrumps Party?

If Republicans can't take their own party back why would they think they could take the country back?

But mainly it is Trump-minded sorts who speak in those sorts of terms anyway.

GOP is reaping what it has sown.

I Can Watch It on TV’: Excuses for Republicans Skipping a Donald Trump Convention
The list of those who have sent regrets includes governors and United States senators — almost all facing tough re-election fights this year — and lifelong party devotees who have attended every convention for decades. Some are renouncing their seats like conscientious objectors....

Among those staying away include some major corporations like Coca-Cola, Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard....

Scheduling conflicts seem to be a surprisingly common excuse for missing an event that was announced a year and a half ago. Others offered mushy noncommitments.

“Just as they’re firming up the schedule, it kind of looks like there’s a lot of stuff for me to do,” said Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, explaining why he probably couldn’t make it.

Fox News is keeping tabs of the GOP's who's who who've decided against showing up at the Trump-led confab.
Most notably, every single living GOP presidential nominee, save for the 92-year-old Bob Dole, who plans to stop by the convention briefly to attend an event for his law firm, won't attend.

Additionally, Sens. Richard Burr, R-N.C., Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, Jerry Moran, R-Kan., Roy Blunt, R-Mo. and Mark Kirk, R-Ill., don't plan to come to Cleveland reported McClatchyDC.
The House may have even more hold-outs, Fox News reported, with Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., telling the Hill Newspaper that he and 10 other conservatives won't attend. ...

Fox News found that Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval and Wyoming Gov. Matthew Mead won't be attending as well, while South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley – an up-and-coming star in the GOP who originally endorsed Rubio – says her attendance is up in the air.

Below is a running list of companies that have announced either they will scale back or withhold funding for the 2016 convention:
MetLife Inc.
Walgreens

Hewlett Packard Inc.

JPMorgan Chase & Co.

UPS

Motorola

Wells Fargo & Co.

Ford Motor Co.

Coca-Cola

Microsoft
Apple

Restores a little of my faith in the GOP.
