Djj, you improve your English first before you start telling off people for not 'getting the basics'.
I really think that lack of English comprehension is the least of his worries.

Hey, ain't that, "Bite! Prime! Pour! Patch! Spit?"
And also because Platonic solids are nothing more than mathematical oddities involving fairly low numbers. If you spend enough time in three-dimensional space, you'll find something that resembles or reminds you of a Platonic solid. However, there's a huge difference between similarity and correlation and an even greater distance between correlation and causation.
Even if there were repeating patterns all throughout the microcosm and macrocosm, it would be no proof at all that a higher intelligence or God had created the system. It would simply be proof that the system has those properties.
I've come to realize that I could grant every single mathematical principle DJJ spouts as true and it still would lend zero weight to the concept of a creator.
By the way, isn't it amazing that a number of any length is divisible by 9 if adding up all of its digits produces a number divisible by 9? And any number is divisible by 4 if its last two digits are divisible by 4. It doesn't mean there's a God, though.
Okay, I think I grok. Now, I haven't read to the (current) end of the thread yet, so you may have covered this already, but could you give me another analogy for "standing wave"? Is there something to visualize, or would that over-simplify it?
Youre right loss Leader,Edited by Lisa Simpson:Misquote removed.
When you stop being insane I might consider replying to you as if you were not.
You know I started reading the thread, and nearly started formulating an answer (VSEPR, the limit thereof, how the s,p,d orbital looks liek and why, analogy with standing wave etc...etc..). And then I saw the answer from djj.
I really really really need a kitten photo for such threads and troll like djj.
Youre right loss Leader, there is no design, no patterns, no laws, no physics, no math makes sense, and there are no patterns. it is all just luck and chance and we all better believe it or we will send a mob to descend upon the non believers and make as foolish posts as possible.
Coming back to my senses and reconnecting up all those synapsis, that make sense and have established routes of inteconnected truths, Sorry, Loss Leader, I have to NOW differ. Platonic solids do give the basics as they are just the basics, but if people know not the basics how can they advance. I mean, the basics of straight line, triangle, square, and beyond is not something to be a afraid of. Just learn basic geometry. Atoms have this basic geometry
I mean the reason one of the reasons why the Jews are so advanced, is that they study the geometry of the tree of Life. We obviously don;t have to as that information is readily available although a teacher does help.
They have to be over the age of 40 and have credentials, whereas we can just get the basics in simple internet or library studies.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? But Sgt. Harper from Sharpe's Battle never mentions a patch. I guess soldiers in the Napoleonic Wars didn't have time for such luxury...
Any black powder aficionados know why these guys wouldn't be using them?
I'm totally just guessing here, because I don't know for sure, but I think that the Sharpe's series takes place when cartridges were in use. So you didn't have a separate patch you had to stuff down there. You'd bite off the top of the cartridge, you'd prime the pan, you'd pour the rest down the barrel, then ram the remainder of the cartridge (ball & paper, which formed the sabot or patch around the ball) down the barrel, and then you'd be good to go. I guess the "spit" is the reminder to clear your mouth for the next cartridge or something.
Yep.I think I beat you to that conclusion almost a month ago:

Yes, you're absolutely right, they're using cartridges. I thought it might be the case that the remainder of the cartridge formed the patch, but I wasn't sure, and didn't want to go out on a limb and expose my ignorance...They spit the ball/cartridge remnants as a quick way to get them into the barrel, which partially accounted for way the Chosen Men and those they trained were so fast with their shots.
Of course, I'm going purely on what I've learned watching the Sharpe series. My Dad got me addicted, and now I've got to read the books. I should've learned after he got me hooked on Patrick O'Brian. The first taste is free....
ETA: Great links, by the way! Thanks!
Patrick O'Brien is a genius. I grew up on C. S. Forester's Hornblower novels. But Aubrey and Maturin are much more real.
I have been to Trafalgar Square and gazed upon my idol.
