And an ex-minister, David Davis, says "In the name of God, go". Oh dear.

David Davis also said:

MP David Davis told Mr Johnson he had spent weeks defending him from "angry constituents", including by reminding them of the "successes of Brexit".

I'd be interested to head what these alleged successes were, and whether this placated his constituents or made them even more angry.

Huge and overwhelming support for @BorisJohnson from packed Tory benches.

Sadly, @Christian4BuryS has yet to realise that the Union Jack Flag of United Kingdom mask he is wearing to cross the floor to Labour, is not welcome on that side of the house.

There's always a tweet!

David Davis is ex SAS He’s trained to survive. He’s also trained to take people out. #Brexit

A senior Conservative MP has alleged that government ministers, whips and advisers have intimidated and attempted to blackmail some colleagues they suspect may oppose Boris Johnson, saying this could be a police matter.

It came as another MP opposing Johnson denied letters of no confidence had been withdrawn after the defection of Christian Wakeford to Labour, blaming spin from government whips.

“These briefings of withdrawals are pure invention from No 10,” one said. “Wakeford may have stayed some people’s hands yesterday but this isn’t going into reverse.”

William Wragg, the Hazel Grove MP who also chairs the public administration and constitutional affairs committee (PACAC), which looks into the work of government and the civil service, said whips had threatened to withdraw funding from the constituencies of MPs opposing Johnson.

Seems a lot of Tory MPs are becoming more outspoken in their opposition to Johnson.

This is not your average grumble.

Stand by for:

1. This did not happen.

2. It did happen, but the Prime Minister knew nothing about it.

3. The Prime Minister knew about it, but it wasn’t technically blackmail.

4. It was blackmail, but the Prime Minister wasn’t told that blackmail was against the law.

Very unusal for an MP to speak out against the Whips like this.

A half-decent person who is in despair? Nothing to lose?

Or rather - he'd rather be in disfavour with Tory power merchants than put up with the crap he's seeing.

Inflationary pressures continue...

Superdry's boss has warned that shoppers should expect higher prices due to rising costs and says the chain will have no more sales in its shops.

Julian Dunkerton said would increase prices on some clothing items by about 2% due to rising inflation.

It hopes to offset price rises by cutting the number of items it puts on sale online too.

Yesterday I bought a 2 litre bottle of own-label fiery ginger beer from Tesco. For years it's been 50p, yesterday it was 60p - that's a 20% price increase.

It begins:

"Boris Johnson said he had seen “no evidence to support any of those allegations” when asked about the William Wragg blackmail claims."

Cue audio / video of him saying, "Start blackmailing the bastards and doing some other illegal ******"

Johnson: "I didn't know blackmail was illegal or against the ministerial code!"

New leak of Johnson yelling: "Bollocks to the ministerial code! I take a dump upon it! Baaaah!"

PMQ with Keir Starmer: "Is the Prime Minister going to apologize for doing illegal ******"

Johnson: "Okay, sorry..."

Starmer: "Apology accepted!" *turns to wink at the camera*

If I reported every time I had been threatened by a Whip or if a Whip reported every time I had threatened them, the police wouldn’t have any time to conduct any other police work! What nonsense from WW.

I believe it was wholly improper of William Wragg to misuse his position as Chairman of a Select Committee to make unsubstantiated claims against the Whips as part of his long standing and well known vendetta against #Boris.

2/2 And if WW was being "blackmailed" as he claims, what is there about his private life that he doesn't want made public???

What a horrible and toxic working environment. :(

It's no surprise that creatures like Michael Fabricant feel right at home there.

As regards the "blackmail", it had nothing to do with the MPs private life and everything to do with funding for "levelling up" initiatives his constituency being withheld unless that MP supported Boris Johnson and withdrew his letter to the 1922 committee. Perhaps there's a bit of projection there from Mr Fabricant ;)

"...whips had threatened to withdraw funding from the constituencies of MPs opposing Johnson....."

But that would be shooting themselves in the foot as that would make it more likely to revert to Labour in these "red wall" constituencies... oh hang on Johnson's lot - suprised they have any feet left!
