Rishi, with his suit getting wetter by the second, desperately trying to be heard over the sound of D:Ream!

Why would he call an election when they are so far behind in the polls? Bizarre.

Worried about the leadership threat?

Anyway, that feels like the defining moment of his career, looking like a drowned rat while the theme of the Labour landslide plays behind him.

So, who forgot to tell Rish! it was raining outside? I mean, fair play for doing it without an umbrella and all, but him getting slowly soaked through does look rather sad.

Not having seen the announcement, I was briefly admiring your construction of such an apt metaphor for his whole time as Prime Minister.

A hail mary on the back of the recent inflation numbers? Combined with Labour and Starmer being seen as uncommitted on just about everything, they might gamble that a strong showing in the leadership debates could some win skeptics over.

That, or someone with insider knowledge let him know how many letters of no confidence has been submitted.

My daughter has just texted to say she's booked 5th July off work so can stay up late to watch the results as they come in.

It's the final week of my summer holiday, but I'm away at a music festival then, so I'll have to save watching the election coverage for later.

The Danish public broadcaster tends to run their own coverage for the first two hours after polls close and the exit polls are released, and then switch to the BBC1 signal until 5-6 AM the following morning.

Calling it now before the polling figures get any worse for him?

Job offer in California starting in late July?

Some tax fiddle I don't understand?

Humphrey the cat has told him to sod right off? And you don't want to argue with Humphrey?

Houseplants 1 & 2 have been bullying him?

He's just found BlowJob's sock drawer? And it can't be fumigated...

Because things are going to get worse.

YESSSSS!!!!!!!
I wonder if the date is significant give he plans to bugger off to the USA afterwards?
Oh and apparently his speech didn't go as well as he hoped according to the BBC:
Two observations: Rishi Sunak was absolutely sodden, and it was hard to hear him over the sound of a disrupter blaring music from outside Downing Street.

The song being played was New Labour’s 1997 election anthem Things Can Only Get Better.
