fair question.

so, tell me, which is easier:

a) have no business operations in or with Northern Ireland

or

b) have business operations with or in Ulster and;

1. Increasing the representation of individuals from under-represented religious groups in the workforce including managerial, supervisory, administrative, clerical and technical jobs.
2. Adequate security for the protection of minority employees both at the workplace and while traveling to and from work.
3. The banning of provocative religious or political emblems at the workplace.
4. All job openings should be publicly advertised and special recruitment efforts should be made to attract applicants from under-represented religious groups.
5. Lay-off, recall, and termination procedures should not in practice favor particular religious groupings.
6. The abolition of job reservations, apprenticeship restrictions and differential employment criteria, which discriminate on the basis of religious or ethnic origin.
7. The development of training programs that will prepare substantial numbers of current minority employees for skilled jobs, including the expansion of existing programs and the creation of new programs to train, upgrade, and improve the skills of minority employees.
8. The establishment of procedures to assess, identify, and actively recruit minority employees with the potential for further advancement.
9. The appointment of a senior management staff member to oversee the company's affirmative action efforts and the setting up of timetables to carry out affirmative action principles.

;)....its ok...we all know which is the easier option.

Don't be silly. That's like saying that Health & Safety Regulations or Hygeine Regulations are an attempt to prevent people opening restaurants. Because it's much easier to not open anything than abide by rules.

your options for answering the question are "a" or "b".

there is no "Planet X" option. sorry.

The thing that gets me is some chest thumping about talking rocks and trees in the Hamas charter must mean that they have a genocidal desire for Jews everywhere... yet......the clear words in the likud platform that there will not be a palestinian state, ever, under any circumstances........doesn't seem to be interpreted as Likud are not going to ever allow a palestinian state.

That's what you call a tu quoque argument. Whatever is in the Likud party platform doesn't change what's in the Hamas charter.

But I guess that's progress. At least you seem to have given up mocking people for taking the passage seriously when the point is that Hamas takes it seriously.

Hmmm, I guess people see what they need to see.....

Yes. For example seem to need to always see an angle that only blames Israel.

Then (a) or (b) depending upon who you are/were trading with in Northern Ireland or what you are trading in.

To suggest that anti-sectarian laws means your company would divest money from Northern Ireland makes me wonder why you were trading with committed sectarians.

The fact you've declared a determination for your company not to trade with Northern Ireland ("If I was a business in the USA, I would simply do my best to avoid ALL business with anyone in Northern Ireland.") might suggest you are protesting anti-sectarianism and are actually in favour of discriminating against Catholics. Or at least profiting from those that do. Not that that could be the case. You aren't anti-anti-sectarian are you Thunder?

If you already were trading with companies that were not sectarian then you should welcome the news as your competition can no longer get favourable rates with those companies that you didn't trade with on principle.

There are far too many variables to give an answer to a question that simplistic.

apparently they are in the charter. i stand corrected.
however, if that is the case, i would be certain that they do not speak for the average palestinian.
the average palestinian, like tha average person everywhere, just wants home, family security and peace.

I'm sure many do, but it takes a special kind of denial to claim this isn't profoundly significant or that Israel shouldn't be concerned with its implications. The Palestinian people are not entirely removed from their government, you can't pretend this isn't indicative of what their intentions would be given the chance.

Cool. Sounds like a waste of time though. Sabra, after all, is primarily a U.S. owned company...

I just realized I have some of this brand in my refrigerator right now. It's a bit more expensive than the large tubs we buy at Costco, but it's very tasty. :)

I think they could do better. Aiming to be an apartheid state is setting your ambitions too low.

See, this is just being needlessly inflammatory. You've been involved in these debates for years, the points you try to make knocked down again and again...and all you got left is to just call Israel names now.

The "Son of Sam" murderer, Sam Berkowitz, claimed he was commanded to kill by a demon that possessed his neighbor's dog. Using "The Fool"'s or "Thunder's" logic, this means he never really killed or meant to kill anybody, since nobody in his right mind would take such a "command" seriously.

The problem, of course, that it doesn't matter what seems ridiculous to us. What matters is what seems ridiculous to the serial killer. Hamas obviously takes the end-of-days judgment with talking trees and rocks seriously as a command to genocide the Jews.

By the way, if anything, the ridiculous religious way Hamas puts its desire to genocide the Jews in its charter makes it more dangerous, not less.

If it simply said its goal is to kill the Jews for political reasons, it is conceivable (although still, of course, not likely) that it sees the killing itself as a necessary evil, and could be persuaded to forgo it to get some of its political goals achieved.

Now that they see genociding the Jews as Allah's command, it becomes non-negotiable.

I love it, personally. The spicy three pepper one is fantastic with spicy pita chips. I think it's the fresh ingredients that really pushes it beyond its' competitors.

I didn't know about the Israeli acquisition of the company until this thread. But it's interesting to think about in retrospect.

A bit of an anecdote. I had worked as a manager at a grocery store a few years ago, and there were Lebanese (immigrants from Lebanon) vendors who would come in to the store early in the morning to restock their hummus (Cedars), grape leaves and pita bread, and I'd usually catch them for a bit of conversation. When we first got Sabra in our store, I had asked one of them what he thought about the competition. He didn't quite like the idea of putting fresh ingredients in, since it would shorten the shelf life of the product and you'd (potentially) throw out more than you sold, but that it was more or less a good product.

I wonder why he didn't want to boycott it? Haven't the Lebanese suffered at the hands of murderous hummus makers?

The idea of trying to bankrupt the Silicon Valley of the Middle East by boycotting hummus sounds pretty loony-tune to me.

Why? What else are you boycotting to bring the Jewish state to its knees? A hard stance on sandwich relish?

It's not just hummus - it's everything made in Israel.

The stated goal of the BDS:

Aims
Raise awareness among consumers about the consequences of buying Israeli goods and services. Pressurise supermarkets and shops into removing goods with barcode 729 - denoting Israeli origin - from their shelves. Encourage companies who make use of Israeli technology and components to find alternatives and join the boycott. Focus the attention of the world on Israeli occupation and apartheid and expose those who bankroll the Israeli regime; and to foster an environment in which it is unacceptable to promote Israeli policies.

Pressurise :boggled:

They should boycott the Arabs. It's their fault the West Bank and Gaza got occupied. If they didn't start that stupid war then Palestine would still be a part of Jordan and Egypt.
