They make up 20% of the population and hold 10% of the seats, in a country where there is a system of proportional representation. No affirmative action there. And you may recall that the Knesset voted, and not the first time, to ban the major Arab parties from the recent elections. The Israeli supreme court had to once again overturn the ban.

When they separate Jewish and Palestinian populations, with privileges for the Jews that the Palestinians are denied, I will call it apartheid. The BBC is certainly "NOT unbiased" in matters related to Israel. So much so, in fact, the BBC’s own Board of Governors censured the corporation’s BBC online service for a misleading article about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The article suggested the UN called for Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from territories seized during the '67 War when in fact it called for a negotiated "land for peace" settlement between Israel and "every state in the area". The BBC governors’ report concluded: "The committee considered that by selecting only references to Israel, the online article did not accurately reflect this balance and gave a biased impression. It therefore breached editorial standards on both accuracy and impartiality".

In October 2004, BBC correspondent Barbara Plett reported on Yasser Arafat being transported to Paris for surgery, and a bias complaint was filed. Plett talked about seeing Arafat being taken to the hospital by helicopter towards the end of his life. She said: "When the helicopter carrying the frail old man rose above his ruined compound I started to cry ..." The BBC initially cleared Plett of any wrongdoing. Following an appeal, however, the BBC Board of Governors upheld part of the complaint, stating that Plett’s comments "breached the requirements of due impartiality". The BBC’s director of news, Helen Boaden, apologized for what she described as an "editorial misjudgment". Hamas et al. have shown an inability, or a lack of desire, to distinguish between Jewish combatants and Jewish non-combatants and their charter reflects a pathological hatred of Jews. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, an earlier leader of the "Palestinians" (Arafat's uncle, in fact) and a Nazi collaborator, wanted them all dead, as well, going so far as imploring Hitler to grant him the honor of implementing his own "final solution".

Do I have to take you at your word?

It was either in Khoury's novel or some other source that there's a story about a Palestinian family visited in the night by their militias and who decide to use their home as a base. Predictably, the home is later destroyed by the Israelis in an air raid.

The implication (and it's widely reported in Arab sources) is that HAMAS itself is perfectly satisfied with the destruction of the homes of their constituents as long as it plays well in the Western press.

This is yet another issue where you really need to get off the interwebs and into a library. You just aren't going to find the true voice of the Palestinians by reading HAMAS public relations ploys magnified by the respectability of Red Cross reports. Give an equal voice, TFT, to those Palestinians who are sick and tired of their leaders using them as political pawns.
