Gaza Ceasefire

I would now call your attention to the Editorial in today's Israeli "Haaretz"

  • The cease-fire will be able to take hold only if it applies to both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. It is impossible to separate what happens in these two places: Every military operation in the West Bank is liable to draw a response from Gaza, and vice versa.

Also, it is instructive to realize that firing missiles from the West Bank is also within the capabilites of the palestinians.

At a news conference in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, a group of 20 masked militants calling themselves 'Jondallah' (God's soldiers) brandished four homemade rockets which they threatened to fire from the West Bank.

Abbas is doing what he promised in Gaza. He is not a miracle-worker, however.
The cease-fire is holding fine, and will be strengthened as Sec'y Rice brings along her ideas (and Gen. Dayton gets working in the background).

Hey, I am not against a total ceasefire in Gaza and the West Bank. I am just pointing out that the ceasefire terms Abbas and Olmert agreed to regarded Gaza, not the West Bank.

Abbas is doing what he promised in Gaza. He is not a miracle-worker, however.
Sure there are going to be some rogue elements, but notice how the Palestinians can actually stop the firing of rockets. IF THEY REALLY WANT TO. Since Hamas came to power they did nothing to stop the rockets, so Palestinians live under IDF guns. If they actually stop the firing of rockets the IDF guns go away... pretty easy math to the rest of the world.

They could also release Gilad Shalit if they really wanted to, but he is more useful to Hamas as a hostage.
