In an article in today's Boston Metro, the NOM (National Organization for Marriage) - An Anti Gay Marriage group, recently thanked Steven Colbert for his spoof of their 'Rainbow' ad against Gay Marriage.

Question to the Peanut Gallery:
Do you think Colbert's spoof will help or hurt the NOM cause, Help the HRC, or have no effect?

While it brings attention to the NOM ad, in doing so does it make it seem ridiculous, thus hurting NOM, and helping HRC, or in bringing it to attention will it help NOM for their 'real' ads that they will run.

I think there's a lot of people out there laughing at the Colbert Report for the wrong reasons...

Even with the first sentence there as reference, I just cannot parse the second sentence for the life of me. Could you try it again?

Choose one:
1) Colbert's mockery helps the cause of gay marriage and hurts NOM.
2) Colbert's mockery actually helps NOM, albeit inadvertently.

I'd choose 3) It neither helps nor hurts, and instead the people who have already made up their mind will assume whatever they want regardless.
