Gasoline Price Rumor Control

Thanks to all who answered.

Well, they're talking about UK petrol prices rising to £1 per litre very shortly - at the moment they're not much below that, at almost 95p per litre.

At the present currency conversion rate of $1.84 to the pound sterling, that makes £1 per litre pretty much smack on $7 per US gallon. Even at the earlier conversion rate (pre-hurricane) of $1.80 to the pound, it's still $6.84 per US gallon.

I realise this is all about taxation, I dread to think how much of that 95p per litre goes straight into the Treasury coffers, but in simple terms of how much I have to fork out to fill up my tank, forgive me if I'm not overwhelmed with sympathy for the plight of the poor Americans just yet.

Rolfe.

PS. If I've got the sums wrong, please feel free to mock and ridicule!

Ok! What you pay is irrelevant. If you currently pay $7 per gallon, imagine it going up to $10 per gallon in a month. How does the pocket book feel now?

I was spending about $120 a month on gas just to drive to work about two months ago. Now it cost me over $300 a month. I have a tight budget so it is difficult to absorb this extra cost.

Just my $3.10/per Gallon (prices this morning) cents.

Meh. That can go both ways, too.

Currently, the average price of gas in Venezuela is 12 cents a gallon. If that suddenly went up to 25 cents, could you see yourself having much sympathy?

(All I can say is it's a damn good thing I only live a few miles from work.)

Beady, I would just like to thank you for your effort in making
this thread sticky.

My time as well as my resources are limited. If your thread hadn't
been at the top it's a sure bet I would have missed it. Living in
a city that has been crossing the line on price gouging......

ie: unleaded jumped a dollar in price within a 12 hour period and quickly dropped when Bush threatened fines to price gougers.

Your information will keep me up to date and informed. Thank you.

If you can't afford it, then don't buy it. Duh!

I can't afford a Lamborghini, but you don't hear me constantly whining about it. Get a life.

Add me to the objectors. The data may be handy, but that's what we have "favourites" folders for.
I think we already have too many stickies. In fact , I think they should all go in a special "Sticky Forum".

I think the price of all candy should go in that forum. :D

Stop whining.

You pay less than half of what we do in Denmark, and your taxes are way lower.

Perhaps you prefer our way? ;)

Yeah, I have a choice about gas. I have to buy it. Some of us have to work for a living. Get rid of the ego.

Your comparison is irrelevant.

Denmark is not a socialist country.

I find it strange that you just can't accept that "socialist country" means two completely different things on the different sides of the Pond.

It really doesn't mean two different things.

It's just a particular political persuasion on this side that insists that "socialism" means "high taxes and universal health care." It doesn't.

Well maybe not the former but certainly the latter.

Only to conservatives who insist on seeing any government program beyond the military as "socialism."

Maybe it's because I strive for clarity and understanding, instead of obfuscation and confusion.
