Freedom of speech in jeopardy

Both of your stupid absurd examples are instances of crimes that have victims. Prostitution and "obscenity" generally do not.

Prostitution is NOT "victimless"...women are selling their bodies for money. it is demeaning, belittling, and immoral. They are further victimized by their abusive pimps who take their money, get them hooked on drugs, beat them, etc.

Furthermore society is victimized by prostitution by the coarsening of it's moral fiber, and having to bear the costs associated with treating abused prostitutes, increased spread of STDs thanks to prostitutes, etc.

The production of obscene materials has been shown to cause an increase in violence against women and a variety of other social ills.

Please don't get into a long-winded debate about the "morality" of prostitution. I assure you that you will not win. All of the comments in your post are linked to mass hype and hysteria. In nations that regulate prostitution, it would seem that prostitutes are treated much better, are much healthier, and few of them are "pimped" or hooked on drugs. That is why the government needs to decriminalize prostitution and take it out of the hands of pimps and child peddlers. When things are decriminalize, crime rates decrease (no suprise) and it becomes much easier to track would be criminals.

No, it's not. At least not inherently so.

Which largely only exists because prostitution is illegal.

"Moral fiber"? I think you're in the wrong forum.

Evidence?

The majority of Americans do not agree with you.

Most europeans would agree me, as would most people in countries where religion is less prominent.

By that logic, no one would ever criticize or try to stop ANY illicit and immoral act.

"Pedophelia is in the eye of the beholder. Buggering little boys and girls is obscene to one observer and everyday recreation for others"

This is a crime because it involves coercion and is NOT between consenting adults.

"Rape is in the eye of the beholder. Forcing oneself sexually on another is criminal to one observer and great fun for others."

This is a crime because it involves coercion and is NOT between consenting adults.

Need I go on?

Prostitution should not be illegal because:

1) It is an agreement between consenting adults
2) It has nothing to do with anyone else.
3) It is a victimless "crime"

"Rape is in the eye of the beholder. Forcing oneself sexually on another is criminal to one observer and great fun for others."
No it is not, forcing oneself on another sexual involves the abrogation of consent.

It is not comparable at all.

It is only in the 'eye of the beholder' for those who deny rape is a crime.
