As our stomachs will be overloaded with food from The Stardust and Vegas all-you-can-eat buffets, JREF has decided to forgo the traditional Bake Sale Fundraiser and to feed people's minds instead with a JREF Book Sale! What better way to share and obtain new books while supporting JREF! I, for one, plan on spending a fair chunk of money on this!

Here's the deal:

Have some old books lying around? Want to get rid of those books while supporting JREF? Contribute to JREF's TAM III Book Sale!

Here's how it works: you bring one book or a few books with you in your suitcase. Preferably, these books would be on topics such as science, philosophy, history, etc. that might be of interest to other TAM III participants. For every book you bring, you receive one *FREE* raffle ticket for the final spot on Penn's Slammer Tour. There's a maximum of 5 free tickets per participant, but feel free to donate more books!

There will be a special table, and we'll be selling the books for $5 or $10-- $5 for small paperbacks and $10 for hardcovers and large paperbacks. All proceeds go directly to JREF's operations fund.

If you plan on bringing books, send an email to Evelyn@randi.org so we know how many to expect.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT send us any books! Bring them with you! If your books do not sell, you must bring them back with you or give them away!

Bring books, buy books, help support JREF!!!

They have to be in English, right? :(

Dohh!!!

No, not necessarily... though if they don't sell, you have to cart them back to Belgium with you or give 'em away at the end of TAM. Basically, we will not ship your books back to Ft. Lauderdale with us!

well I have an old mystery book written by A.Conan Doyle, 1905, and it's NOT Sherlock Holmes.

That is coming.

Plus a book called, "You Can Survive the Bomb".

How did that end up on my shelf?

Will Pool Boy notice the suitcase is just a wee bit heavier?

bump....

so you all have tickets to the Slammer? I don't think so, bring some books!

I do not think this is fair to all us bibliophiles.
Get rid of books, sale your own books! I find this appalling.
Can we not get one free raffle ticket for each book we buy instead?

hmmmm, well try and ask Linda and Evelyn...maybe they'll go for it.

Hey, why don't you just bring 5 random books, and I'll do the same, and then you buy mine and I'll buy yours, and then we'll both have 5 raffle tickets :D

OK, so years of roleplaying have sort of enhanced my ability to find the loopholes in any system ...

Good idea! Although that would imply that I do not get to read your random books before you want them back.
But your suggestion made me think. I suppose I could bring five random books in Swedish and probably be the only one interested in buying them. Thus I get the raffle tickets and get to keep my books, although it would not be for free. :(

hey, this is to make money for JREF people!!!!

I would say that you could find a nice used bookstore around, when are you flying in? Imight be able to be bribed to bring some extra books for someone if they asked nicely also.....

I'm going to the really cool old bookstore in town soon to see if I can find any goodies, like Feynman. Also like to pop into the woo woo section. I'm not giving up my copy of, "The Giant Orm of Loch Ness" though. I love that woo book, it's better than a sleeping pill for getting rid of insomnia.

Guys are so funny about their books! :)
Hubby has many fine science and classic sci fi books, but I KNOW I cannot touch them or I would be at my own funeral instead of enjoying TAM.

So, I'm considering going through my own puny collection of books. I do have a book that Hubby gave me called, "The Inventions, Researches, and Writings of Nikola Tesla" by Thomas Commerford Martin. Tesla is one of my heroes, so I don't know if I can part with it; I'm still thinking about it.

I am tempted :D to bring a bunch of christian-type books by Hal Lindsey, but people might get too excited and I won't make it out of TAM alive. ;)

I don't think you read Dutch any more than I read Swedish, so it probably wouldn't be much of a loss :D

That depends on what kind of pictures there are in the books! ;)

This is a good way to bring in some extra cash for the JREF.
No cost, hassle, problems. A win/win situation.

I asked Hubby if he had any science or philosophy books he wanted to give me for the JREF fundraising. As I thought he would, he told me he needed them all. He's buried "alive" in books. Don't worry, kitten, I'm still going to bring at least one book! :)
