Merged Fred Phelps nearly dead/Is dead.

I'm having trouble reconciling the supposed reason for excommunication with the man described in the article. We don't have all the facts.

Personally I assumed it was because he disagreed with the way the power struggle went and may have been trying to, I don't know, encourage a compromise that would be more in line with how he wanted the church to be run.

Fascinating in the sense that they should be studied and lessons learned from their aberrant behaviour. Stalin or Hitler are fascinating studies but not in a good way. I think it's important to know how they thought and how they executed their plans for domination.

"Fascinating" means "extremely interesting", and "captivating". Now, personally, I don't find Phelps or Browne anywhere near extremely interesting or captivating. In fact, I reckon there are a whole lot of non-fascinating subjects worthy of further study. Good and bad has nothing to do with it.

Cant wait for the funeral reports...
Any chance I can mail a bottle of urine to help dampen the day?

Being that Fred was an attention whore, the worst thing that could be done to him at this point is to totally ignore his funeral.
He'll be seeking attention at his funeral? Not the least of his achievements, if so. But it would have been better, attention whore that he is, to have ignored him in life, and to execrate him after his death.

But if he's been excommunicated from the Elect, does that mean that according to his own belief, he's going to spend eternity in Hell with all these gay people?

Apparently no funeral, so we'll never know.

New word for me. I like it.

Yes.

According to his own beliefs, Fred Phelps will burn in Hell with all the Sodomites he's spent his life attacking.

My unwritten note to Phred, who is now dead.

Phred, when you meet your Maker, I hope you receive justice.

Exactly! Sylvia Browne is/was a historical figure but neither Browne nor Phelps are worth the horse apples I clean out of my horse's stall. :D

Why not send the family a big box of those when he croaks to express your appropriate and deep sympathies on their loss.:):D

A fascinating historical character is on his deathbed. Fred Phelps probably did more to hasten the end of homophobia than any other single individual.
Two quibbles:
1) Homophobia will never end.
2) He did hasten the end of socially acceptable homophobia.

Two hundred blows with that handle in one 'discipline' session. He wrenched his wifes' arm out of socket so bad she required surgery -- which Phelps refused to allow.

Someone ought to beat him two hundred times with a mattock handle.

Too mundane. Fred deserves very special treatment.

Some of the most important things are best left unsaid.

I don't want anyone protesting his funeral and for us all to collectively share the same line of thinking.

I just wish I could go with some friends that are going to go protest at his funeral and give his family a taste of their own medicine. Also when he is finally dead we can get Sylvia Brown to contact him and ask him how he likes being in hell ? :D:D
