France attempting to ban burqas

i do not like burkas.

i think they create mistrust.

being able to see someone's face is a matter of security. what if someone in a burka is really a man trying to kill someone???

I just don't like the idea of govt. legislating over religion.

this is a bad idea....but i do synpathize with the French.

i would feel very uncomfortable if every Muslim woman in the USA wore a full burka.

i don't want people all around me covering their faces. thats dangerous. Im sorry.

i feel for religious freedom..but not when it compremises my safety.

if France forces women in burka to show their full face, I would not blame them..nor condemn them.

Could merge, but I thought it was important in the link that the law has been proposed now, and the Socialists are opposing it.

Though the Socialists are opposing it because of process, not purpose.

Fair enough.

I find burqas to be unnecessary and a security risk as well. There was a case here in Florida a few years ago where a woman wanted her Drivers license picture taken with her face covered because she was Muslim. The court ruled against her and said she could not have a DL pic with her face covered. And I totally agree.

I had a friend that when we would go to the mosque for Friday prayer she would cover her face while in the mosque but as soon as we left she would have her face showing. She never covered her face in public places only in the mosque. What a strange thing to do..

In Australia, there are signs outside banks and servo's saying that you must remove a full face motorcycle helmet before entering.
I think the reasons for this are fairly obvious.

ETA: servo = gas station

There's a huge difference between requiring a clearly visible face in particular instances, and the outright banning of a particular mode of dress. Requiring that a Muslim woman display her face in a driver's license photo, for example, makes simple sense.

But outright banning a particular mode of religious dress is blatant religious oppression, and totally unjustified.

So you don't think France should ban this mode of dress for security reasons?

Of course you find them unnecessary, they aren't a part of your culture.

Some cultures feel that wearing a shirt is unnecessary in warm climates, and a shirt can easily hide a weapon.

All notions of modesty and shame are more or less cultural, the western prohibition against female breasts differs only quantitatively, not qualitatively. Only a culture with no such hang-ups is fit to pass judgement about how necessary any particular garment is.

From my limited knowledge on France's stance on the matter, I would say being unable to identify people is a security risk.

I presume that France therefore intends to ban all clothing or items that could be used to conceal a person's identity, such as wigs, hats, glasses, hoods, robes, dresses, and fake mustaches?

I wouldn't presume anything, except a full face covering would be the first to go for reasons of security.
